Default Clunky Clunk

Seemed to have developed an annoying clunk from the trans that is quite noticable when I let the clutch out in 1st gear. Happens right at the end of the clutch engagment everytime. Sometimes it's one thud and sometimes two. Any ideas? At first I thought the chain was too loose and it was bouncing around a bit but after a few adjustments it's still there. Hmmmm....... 2001 750S 10k miles

As a start, check your sprockets for wear. If your chain was loose enough to be slapping around chances are good the sprocket teeth are worn. The "thunk" would be the chain jumping the sprocket.

Sprockets look perfect and i checked the cush drive last time I had the rear tire off (1000 miles ago). I really get the feeling it's internal to the trans. Almost like 1st isn't fully engaged when the bike is at a stop with the clutch in and drops in the rest of the way once the clutch lets out.

we had a 600m yearsa go that make a knock-knock noise when you let the clutch out. we think it was a alternator nut that had lost its torque allowing the timing gears to rock. we undid stuff and did it back up again and it was gone, but never really sure why.

if you held the brake on while letting the clutch out it really showed up.

Thanks Brad. I'll check it out - hope it's that simple.
