Default Bellypan on SSie for Racing?

Hey All,

Finishing up some stuff on my race bike for the upcoming season. (its almost here! Caught me off-guard!). I know in the new rules, everyone must have a bellypan, that can contain 3-quarts mininum of engine "stuff" in the event of a crankcase failure.

Now, I've got the sharkskinz race fairings, and I plan on getting the Solo-tail from BCM. But the big question is, what do I do about the belly-pan? Can I order one, and have it fit under the lower section of the fairing? Or do I have to run without a lower if I have the belly-pan on ?

Any info on what other SS racers have done to adapt to this new rule, would be most helpful. Thanks!

I believe the sharskinz set has a true belly pan.

i would think BCM would have the bellypan you need, no?

BTW, did you check the new rules allowing the 800cc ducs to race?

I don't know about racing, but the SS is on its way to being a track bike. I need to call BCM about how to support the racetail in the back. Right now it is only attached on the side, where the original side panels were attached. Then I need to paint and get a foam seat. I am getting a set of OEM fairings instead of Sharkskinz. Someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse .

I didnt see the rules with the 800cc Duc's for racing. I figured they'd be fine... considering the limit for the Lightweight sportsmen is 904cc Air-cooled desmo... unless they allow you to mod certian things on the 800.

Considering this is my first season of "real" racing, I'm gonna focus on getting the basics down good, before I start riding a bike thats trying to high-side me every chance it can get. :P

Not sure if the SS fairings have a "certified" bellypan or not. The thing with the BCM belly-pan, is I'm not sure if it fits underneat the sharkskinz, or if I have to run without a lower.

Damn rules... Grrr.. But I understand why they have 'em. Nothings a bag of flaming poop on your doorstep like a crankcase-worth of oil all over the track before your race.

The competition pieces by sharkskinz (above) look like they integrate a true bellypan, eg, no openings through which oil couldn't leak through. The OEM SS bottoms have openings that I could see oil sloshing out of and getting onto track - don't think OEM bodywork would be legal or even reccomended. What you could try is running the BCM belly pan sans the lower fairings.

Hey Rotty900SS,

do you have any detailed pictures of the BCM rear tail availible? I'm still going to order one, but I'd just like to see what I"m getting myself into, and if I"m going to have to fab up some mounts or something.

Thanks!

ducati perf. makes the racing bellypan. you need to have a half-fairing model. it's 180 bucks. and it looks like shit and fits like shit. as usual.
i race a 750ss, and the belly pan was ground down on the side once leaned over and the headers burned almost all the way thru. even with exhaust tape.
I think it's too wide. it will fit on one side then stick out too far on the other. I'm going to cut it in half and re-glass it so it will be a bit more narrow.
good luck. ccs has fun classes for our bikes. you'll enjoy
