Default Help on coffin style reservoirs

Just for looks, I want to change the square "coffin" style reservoirs on my CR to the round style of the SP. I've seen the Nissin kit from CA Cycleworks and I was wondering if there is a cheaper solution. Any ideas or help would be great, i.e. year and make of bike I could "rape" used ones from...

I recently picked up a Radial Master cylinder from Ebay from a 749 for about 90dollars.

haven't fitted it yet, but reason why it shouldn't work well on my 99 900ssie

I have 999 radials on my 99 944SSie. They work great but are a pain to fit. You will have to remove the 999 style reservoirs since they will hit the clip-on and throttle housing. Plus you will either need 999 lines or fiddle with the stock ones to make them clear other bits and fit the different mounting of the radials. The clutch master has no provision for mounting the fast idle control lever as well. Lots of hurdles, but in the end its all worth it.

you can use any of the superbike master cylinders. i switched from the coffin's to the round plastic ones. i bought the levers, perches and mastercylinders off e-bay for less than 200 bucks. you may have to fiddle with the brakeline ends but they bend if you go slowly.

re: 999 radial MC. so what did you do with the resevoir??? use the stock one??? and the bolt that mount the stock resevoir that sits in the fluid appears to hollow and that it is possible to see the MC itself through the hole! Does this need to be blanked off with a normal bolt. Also, brake light switch, is part of the resevoir???? so an external banjo bolt type is required i assume.
Any Pics you have would be well recieved!

I bought a set of OEM style round reservoirs and various fittings and hose from Yoyodyne. There are probably simpler ways to go about it but I wanted things to look as stock as possible. The 999 tanks just plain won't fit without hitting something, and even when you work it out, the OEM brake lines won't look "right" and a set of 749/999 lines are probably in order.

The bolt is actually a bleeder which vents directly into the fluid - great idea IMHO. The bleeder also holds the stock reservoirs to the MC body. Remove this and replace it with a traditional bleeder.

No. The 749/999 MCs come stock with a microswitch that works perfectly with the OEM 750/900SS wiring harness. You can go this route and buy the switch from Yoyodyne, BCM or BikeBandit.com or just look for a banjo bolt pressure switch. I like the 999-style microswitch for its integrated, stock look.

I just got done doing this on my 97 900ss. I used a brand new clutch and brake master cylinders that used on the 916. I got them from yoyodyne. Something to think about is that the choke houseing screws into and is fastened to the clutch master cylinder. I know that the 916 clutch MC has the taped holes to attatch the choke houseing to, I don't know if this is so on other clutch MC.

many thanks, that is awesome.

My MC doesnt appear to have a switch built in, unless its cunningly disguised as a casting!
so a banjo bolt version it will have to be. I get my bike back in 6 weeks (its in winter storage) so will have to be patient. i think it will take me two weeks to mount all the new parts i have collected over winter, SBK forks, Carbon fairing, MC, brake hose, kevlar oil hoses and the list goes on! i absolutely cannot wait!

If it's a stock Ducati MC, it has a place for a small microswitch to bolt to. You can get that microswitch from some of the Brembo dealers (I think TAW has them). Or, Fred at Yoyodyne sells a mircroswitch that works well. I'd avoid the pressure switch, as they aren't terribly reliable. Plus, there always seems to be an annoying lag between squeezing the brake lever and lighting up the brakelight.
