Default Removed Snorkels Today

Well, I had my tank up doing some stuff so I went ahead and removed my snorkels. I got pipes comin and was going to wait and do this at the same time when I got it tuned but decided to see what would happen. I only went for about a 25 mile drive and, well, couldn't really tell much of a difference. There was however, no poping or backfireing or anything funny. What I did notice was the difference in sound...and I liked it. We'll see how it contiues. Anyone else done this as opposed to removing the whole top of the lid? I was told this was just as effective and it will get all the air it can through those two (2 5/8" diameter) holes anyways. Plus if you don't like it, this way you can reverse it.

Just take the lid off. Hold the air filter down with a couple of tie wraps across the top.

I took the whole lid off and did the high performance zip tie mod. I like the new found intake noise that was never there before. My mechanic had done it for me by surprise at the 6K service and neglected to tell me. When I first started it up it scared the hell out of me. It was then when he remembered that he had taken it off and gave me the box with all my stock equipment in it. I run it with Remus pipes and the DP ecu, and haven't had any cough or sputtering since taking the airbox off. I also deleted all the emissions stuff as well, but I'm not sure that's had much of an effect on performace.

You guys using K&N filter or just the factory Fram paper filter? I've heard the filter is really not a big performance difference but most people get the K&N because of the durability factors with the whole top off.

Yea, even with just the two holes, I noticed the sound right away...and liked it.

I'd definitely go with the K&N. I think if it were to get wet at all the paper element in the stocker would disintegrate quickly. Plus the added rubbing of the zip ties would wear holes in it. The K&N has wire mesh surrounding its element and so resists wear much better. I've seen a few folks who actually deleted the whole airbox and just attached a cone filter to each intake manifold. I think that looks really cool, but couldn't comment on the difference in sound or performance.

Anyone run the 2 or 3 layer ITG foam filters? What are your thoughts?
