Default Finally, a CF Hugger!!! Please note your interest

Ok all, after well over a year I have finally found a very reputable company (not Benfer/Clay Carrier, but someone just as talented) who is interested in making a rear hugger. The price should be about $200.

I am going to send them the one from my bike that I shortened and added a "lip" to the trailing edge. I'll have them add another inch in length (not that size really matters!) for asthetic purposes. They will be available in DP and 2x2 twill flavors and will be designed to fit an aluminum swingarm from a 99 900SS which I *think* is backwards compatable for all 5.5mm wheels to 1992 more or less. The finished product will look a lot like the following pics:

And this, before I flared the trailing edge:

To make the process easier, please indicate your interest in this project.

I would vote for it, if it fit my '95...

Can anyone verify fitment? The Ducati Performance catalog lists their carbon fender to fit 900SS and Sport (steel swingarm) to 2001.

Might be helpful for everybody who voted in the 'if it fits I want one' or 'count me in' categories to post up what they're trying to fit the hugger to...

I'm going to be putting one on a 2002 swingarm (the newer/larger section aluminum unit).

Hopefully we can talk them into making matching chainguards too.

Mine would go on a '95 900 SS.

Hugger length not an issue and I'm not worried about a chain guard.

I think that covers everything....

Cheers

Nick, Thanks for you efforts on this project. Why are you adding an inch to the one in the picture? It looks great to me as is!

I just thought a bit more protection was in order. If everyone likes it the way it is I will have them make them as it is. Actually, I was looking through Cycleworld or one of those rags and most bikes come with an abbreviated or no hugger, so the minimalist look of my hugger will probably be fine. I just want to make sure I protect the shock and engine from sandblasting.

I am not the one selling them (just the guinea pig!) so you will have to work that out with the manufacturer, but they are international so I am sure it won't be a problem.

Right now I placed an order for some heel guards to make sure the overall quality of the bits from the manufacturer are truly show quality. Assuming they are, I'll place an order for my hugger and post pics and a quality report here so you can see what the final product looks like and how it fits.

Default Carbon Hugger Update

I had ordered a set of sample pieces from the shop that was going to fab the carbon hugger for us and I picked them up from the PO this morning. Ask anyone who knows me (Strati, PaulST4s) and they will tell you I am an anal MoFo that is satisfied with nothing. This goes for 99% of the CF I have seen except for Clay Carrier's work - and these.

I ordered a set of twill heel guards trimmed for the SS and was very impressed by what was delivered. Very thick with a deep clear coat and perfect weave. Absolute jewelry at least as good as Clay Carrier's and Carbon Dream.

So, that being said I am going to send off my rear hugger and a set of OEM 900 cam belt covers on Monday and will post my results here. The hugger is going to have the lip on the trailing edge and be the same length as what you see in the pic above mounted on my bike.

As for timing, it took a while for these guys to get to the heel guards, but I am hoping things happen a bit faster for these last two pieces. I will keep everyone posted.

Oh, one last thing, I am not making a dime from this process and further, will not be selling parts. Once I am satisfied with the product I will pass along the name of the manufacturing shop and you can place your orders directly.

At this point, all I can say is:

I have found a store that sells a short hugger for the SS. Check the link.

Flapp, you suck! Where have you been for the past year +? Do you know how long this thread has been going on in one version or another?!? Do you know how much time you would have saved us with that link 13 months ago?

Just the same the manufacturer I found is local so there isn't the whole international shipping issue. Support the home team!

Nick, That one is OK and I would have gotten it BUT yours is much cooler. From what you say yours will probably be better quality. Your design is HOT!!

Nick, The details matter = your little lip and the angle at the side support are perfect. What is the time line on yours and price?

Thanks! Timeline...hopefully the guys will move this right along. I am going to package it up and get it in the mail on Monday so hopefully within a few weeks they can get a sample to me for fitting. Of course, this is all my guesstimate and not theirs. Price was supposed to be somewhere around what Benfer was going to charge for the MH900e hugger. I will send them the above link as an example of what similar bits are going for.

Thumbs up on the rear hugger design Nick, and I echo mary2al's sentiments. Your prototype was the only rear hugger I'd consider mounting.
