13/16ths?!?!

I have changed my oil 100 times already and have never had a problem removing the oil screen on my '99 900 with a 22mm deep socket, but it never really fit "right". A 22mm felt like it was a hair too big, but a 21 was definitely too small and a 23 definitely too large.

So I finally get around to changing my oil after putting my bike away in October and just for giggles I tried a 13/16ths deep socket on the nut and it fit perfectly! This has to be the only standard sized bit on the bike. Is this one of those Italian manufacturing anmalies or does everyone have a SAE oil screen?

Come to think of it, I've noticed the same thing. Never tried an SAE socket though. I always used a 6 point 22MM without trouble, but it doesn't fit perfect. I'll have to try the 13/16ths socket next time. Also, I never thought 10MM allen fit very well in the drain plug. I wonder if that's the same situation. Maybe I'll try an SAE allen too!

I changed my oil on Saturday, noticed the same thing. My 13/16 deep socket fit perfectly on the bolt. Can't really explain it though...

i've been using a 21mm socket for about 10 1/2 years. never had a problem.
