Default Broken windscreen, "skateboard crash".

My older son was riding his board a couple of days ago and in one of his stunts, ended up crashing against my 900ss and it fell against the garage wall breaking the windscreen in about 20 pieces, plus scratches all over the place.
My fault was to leave the bike about three feet away from the wall, so it fell to the right side. If you got kids, leave your bike close to the wall so if its bumped it can not fall. Luckily no one was next to the bike.
If you got kids, you know they have a special ability to bump into things and break them. I did not get mad, , the kid pulled excuse # 57 right away ( "I`ll pay for the damage" ) and all I could do was .
He is lucky I`m nice. My dad would have made me eat the pieces of windscreen and probably break the skateboard in half, in my head.
If any of you guys have a spare w.s., I`m in the search for one. ( 2000 900SSie ).

How the fcuk did your windscreen break from this? I can't imagine it breaking from such an impact. I would suggest maybe getting a new Zero Gravity dark screen. ($70) It's the perfect excuse to get a nicer one.

Check out White Buffalo Racing for windscreens... I got my ZG Double Bubble screen for something like $65 from them.

I haven't broken my windscreen, but it's all scratched up. How do you like that double bubble windscreen? I don't know that I've ever seen pics of one on an SS, but I'm curious. If anyone can post pics that'd be great.

I like it, seems to have better wind protection than the stock screen.

Go with a clear one. Having a tinted windscreen does not allow you to take on board video.

Thanks for the photos, jpuck. I like the look of that, and I'm sure it gives better wind protection than the stock screen. What are those front blinkers and how did they mount? Did you have to drill holes in the plastic to mount them, or were they able to be bolted up without modification? I've been looking for some flush mount signals but have had a hard time finding any that didn't require ruining the fairings.

thanks again!

I've got a stock windscreen off an '03 1000 SS. Let me know if you're interested.

They are LP Type IV flushmounts, small size. I had the bodywork modified by Morse Fiberglass while they were repairing/painting everything from a lowside last year. They shaved the stock mounting recesses and filled the gap in, then drilled a hole to mount the new signals.

LP makes a size big enough to cover the stock recess I think, check on their site. I liked the look of the small ones a bit better and figured I'd make the change while the bodywork was getting redone anyway.

Jpuck, how is the db at freeway speeds? I went to a Zero Gravity touring screen and have loved it. It taller than stock a lip that sends the air into the top of my helmet. I'm 6' tall, so the stock one sent wind into my neck at freeway speeds.

Works pretty well, when I'm tucked in and cruising on the freeway the wind goes right over the top of my head and shoulders. I'm about 5'-10" though so I have somewhat of an advantage there!

CRG Hindsight LS... the folding 3" diameter ones. Very nice upgrade, its wierd actually being able to see anything in your mirrors after using the stock ones. Once you get used to looking by your hands for the mirrors they are great.

I will like to publicly thanks CAKAKE ( Eric ) for helping us out with this.
I got the screen from him and its Like New !!

People like Eric is what make this Forum great !!!

The windscreen I got from Eric is much better looking than my old one. The new one has a shaded area on the very front which covers the instruments back and looks much nicer. I understand his is a 2003, mine is a 2000, so if you ever have to get one, get the one from a 2003, it looks better and fits perfectly.

Thanks again ERIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JT

I hope you also kicked (metaphorically) some appreciation of your gear/stuff into your son. It does take ages for kids to learn to think before doing something stupid ... but this would have been a perfect example.

I must admit I would have gone nuts ... and probably needed some by myself time for the perspective (on life, etc.) to return to normal.

Glad I could help. It's nice (especially for your son) to see that you actually got an upgrade on your bike! Besides, it was just taking up space in my living room anyway.
