Default DP High Mount Exhaust for 99

Anybody have any experience with the Ducati Performance High Mount cans with the ecm? I have an opportunity to get the set for a great deal, but I have never seen or heard them. Anyone have pictures? Thanks for the help.

Here's a pic of my Sport with the DP (Remus) carbon High mounts:

I didn't get the ECU with them so I am using a PowerCommander III usb. I've also removed the airbox lid and put in a K&N filter.

It's definitely louder than stock, but not intrusive. But, that's my opinion, others may disagree. I hear more intake noise than exhaust noise.

You'll lose the capability of carrying a passenger if you go with the high mounts. I just picked up a set of adapters that allow the stock passenger footpeg bracket to be installed over the mufflers, but I haven't installed them yet so I can't comment on their effectiveness.

Looking great Bob!!

Here is my '99 900SS (Isabella) with DP (Remus) Titanium Hi-mounts - using the same hangers as on Bob's Sport.

The cans look great and sound seriously intrusive - I make no friends in my neighbourhood!!
As Bob said, they negate the passenger pegs and I cannot see how a workaround would really pay off, practically or aesthetically.

Also: after riding some serious miles on a trip to the Gap earlier this year, I found they interfered somewhat with my right foot position. I eventually got used to it and compensated but there are still melted boot rubber markes on the pipe!!

In the DP catalog, they mention the standard exhuast systems, and the the race systems. I am looking at the Race high mount in carbon fiber that comes with the computer. Is there a difference in the regular high mount and the race hi mount? Also, is the computer worth it? I've always though a different map might help, as I've always had a little hiccup at 3000. I really like the Hindle setup, but I can get this soooo much cheaper, its hard to say no. Thanks for the help.

My slip-ons were marked "off road use only". I don't think there is a "regular" high mount.

Most Supersports have the hiccup at or around 3000 rpm. Mine was actually nearer to 3800 or 4000 rpm and getting a custom map for the PowerCommander helped a little. I plan on tweaking the map in the Spring to see if I can eliminate the hiccup.

The ECU is a good thing to have with the slip-ons. Although if you just put the exhaust on and don't do anything with the airbox you can probably get away with the stock ECU. Usually it's when the airbox is opened up in conjunction with the exhaust that a DP ECU or PowerCommander is needed.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I, and I think Bill does too, have an Evoluzione fender eliminator. I don't know if the high mounts will work with the stock rear fender.

Bob, I hadn't thought of it 'til you mentioned it but yes, I also have the fender eliminator and the stock license plate holder/fender might interfere.

I have the DP ECU in my bike - came with the slip-ons. I once experimented with replacing the stock chip but I have the airbox opened up so as Bob says, it runs badly with that combo.

Thanks for the input. As far as the fender issue goes, if you've got a cleaner tail than mine, you must really love you're enema's!

My '99 900SS also has the DP high mounts (alloy) with K&N, chip and open box. I run the stock fender / licence holder with no problems.
I used the stock rear peg and hangers after some creative "trimming" and mounted this on the lowest hole on the DP muffler hangers.
Looks good, cost nothing and keeps the wife off during those long hauls! Oops, here she comes....

Key Brennan,

What is holding your exhaust silencers up? I cannot figure it out from the photo - they look like there are no hangers at all!

There's nothing holding the cans on in that pic, I was playing around a bit at relocating the cans.

I'm running the high pipes, ecu, open airbox, and have no problems. It's definitely louder than stock, but not nearly as loud as the older model SS. I rode behind one with Forza cans and could barely hear my intake over his exhaust. I also have the rear peg adapters. I was very apprehensive about mounting them due to the fact that it creates a long lever on a very weak-looking mounting tab on the frame. I just make sure the GF knows not to put a lot of weight on them when we ride. As far as appearance, they look a little odd, but I've gotten used to them over the last several months. I don't have any pics, but if someone wants to see them I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow or something.

I'd like to see what it looks like if you can get round to taking a photo.

Wow, thanks for the compliment. If you're interested, there's a few more pics here:

pics 1 through 4 are of the stock exhaust and 5 through 9 are the high mounts.

The pics were my attempt at art. Italian bike and Tudor house.

PS - 1 through 4 also show my attempt at dual headlights.

Here ya go

No ryanesque artistry, just plain old pics. I tried a variety of angles to give you the best view.

The mounting brackets actually have a beveled edge on one side that keeps the footpegs from rubbing on the cans. I didn't realize this the first time because the directions are entirely in German and don't have very good diagrams. I installed them upside down and was pissed that I paid $40 bucks for brackets that would quickly destroy my exhaust. I soon discovered that I'm an idiot and had them upside down, and they work well when installed correctly.

But you can see how one might worry that with enough weight placed on them they might lever the mounting tabs right off the frame.

BlueSS, nice looking bike. That is a smart looking solution but I'd be very concerned about the leverage as you said.
My wife's a little squirt and I'd still worry about her putting weight on them (getting on and off anyway). Not that I have that problem - she really doesn't like riding pillion at all.

Anyhow, thanks for posting - the bike looks very sharp. You should put up a few full-bike shots just for the sake of vanity .... and so I can get a better look at your decals!! They look great from what I can see.

What actual colour is the bike - navy blue? (just a wild guess...)

Thanks for all the input. I think my tax money will be going towards this kit. I really want the Hindle setup, but I can get the DP Highmount in carbon fiber with the ECU for half the price, and thats good enough for me. Thanks!

Bill-
Good guess... I can't remember the exact name of the paint, I think midnight pearl blue or something. It looks black in the shade and the blue only comes out in the light. I got the idea from a local hotrodder who had a similar paint but in green. I thought it was a really deep looking blue when I saw it on the palette and it turned out well.

Chris at Airtrix did the decals for me in chrome and gold foil. It's nowhere near some of the incredible custom work he does, but I didn't have the money for anything really outrageous. I always liked the look of the older Duc lettering, so I had him do it in the older script. I'll post some more tomorrow for ya!

VF nice you guys... I wish I had high-mounts, but I have the DP lows which came with the ECU.. no PC III needed at all since there is no hiccup anywhere. I will post a pic soon (yeah, I know I said that once before) including a look at the sweet Kaemna bikini fairing. You guys have w-a-y too much plastic on your bikes, .. in fact they remind me of a VFR
