You won't need them again, so I mangled the roller bearings enough that they finally came out. For the races I used a screwdriver from the other side and evenly tapped it out, IIRC. With one side out I think I used a socket and a extension as a drift to knock the other out from the opposite side. Although I do reminder has to fish around in that dead space in b/w to get one of the races out.
i dremeled off the extraneous parts, and used the bicycle bottom bracket facing tool to re-square them back up. worked just great.
as expected, the swingarm pivot needed to be oblong by maybe 1/16 in. but, since the motor i got used 12mm bolts i used the 12 in the front, 10mm on the rear one and the swingarm pivot straight thru. i'll eventually make the hole oblong, and have a spacer made to fill in the gap above, so i can have both bolts be 12mm, but until then this will do.
changing up the cross brace looks to be easy. it's actually tempting to just leave it off, as upon close examination of the SS frame it was barely braced at all.
i'll post pics in a day or two.
OH, what did you end up doing about the fuel lines. is one of the tank attachments a return line? if no, can i just delete the return line at the throttle bodies?
i've still got to get some pod filters, mate the two exhausts, re-weld the cross brace, and get creative with a battery box and wire in the harness.
i'm really pleased so far, i just need to work out whether or not one of the quick disconnects on the fuel tank is a return line, and if no, how to either make it into one, or delete it from the throttle body.

Nice, much quicker than me. Like what you did with the upper, I was thinking of doing the same, now I know I will. Yeah I pretty sure that the sbk tank is like the other two FI ducatis I have had. Four hoses: main (QD), return(QD), vent, drain. I actually have the fuel pump out of the tank so I can check for you in the next few days, or you might try asking in the SBK section.
How are you holding the tank down w/o the airbox bottom? I'm thinking of battery boxes too, there is alot of space under the tank since we aren't using the airbox. Are you using the stock harness or fabbing your own?
well, i got a deal on a wrecked 900SS i couldn't pass up, so i've got everything from the 900, (harness and all) and i'm just transferrring it all over.
as far as the tank, i had a SBK airbox that was damaged, so i cut it up to use just the upper front portion with the locater hole. i really like the looks of it without the airbox, really open and able to see everything.
i got the cross brace welded in today, made the axle hole oblong, and fitted the 12mm engine bolts. very nice and scary smooth. now i just need to work out the vertical header....any suggestions there jager?
i wish i could afford to have doug at arcfab build me an under engine exhaust, and then i'd do a custom tiney tail somewhat similar to this, but with my seat:
Obviously you can cut and weld so buy a box of 10 random bends in the right diameter from www.burnsstainless.com and you can just build your own collectors and mate them to whatever silencers you are wanting to use.
Or you can specify the exact bends you want, but it is a lot cheaper to buy the box of random bends and cut them up yourself!

Paul, Norm is doing the exhaust header fabrication for me. He is finished and I'm picking up the bike this weekend, so I can grab some pics. You might try pming norm and seeing what he did. Can't wait to try and figure out the locations for the battery box, ecu, and other electronics. Luckly norm introduced me to rivnuts.
good to hear you'll have it soon. you're going for track only-yeah? if you're using pod filters, there is a ton of more room underneath the tank for the battery box etc...
Yeah this is going to be a track only bike for the time being. I went with pod filters for stage 1 and there is a good amount of room under the tank. Stage 2 will probably start next winter after I get some seat time . Looking at building an airbox, 6 speed and a longer swingarm for more weight on the front. Maybe something lighter and longer like a 05+ 999 swinger (or a 1098 one if I could find one).
yeah if you could make a 999/749 swingarm fit, it would give the length you want. as far as i know, you'll also need the 749/999 upper rocker too.
i'm playing around right now with best sprocket combos for max length. for the 900.
for me to have a higher than stock ratio (15/40), with longest wheelbase, either 14/39 with 96 link chain, or 15/42 and 98 link chain are going to be my best bets.
the shame is that i have a 520 15T and 96 link chain. i'd like to re-use all, but the chain is a link too short....
have a look at my exhaust, just a bunch of stainless steel 90deg bends, you can either cut the 90deg ones in half to get 45 bends,or whatever angle you want, over here they just sell them off the shelf at engineering shops.304 grade s/s is what i use.also off the shelf are reducers for changing diameter etc.i would also expect that most exhaust shops could source them, when i was looking for thin wall bends they had to come x usa. .9mm wall,as apposed to the 1.4 i ended up using, give it a go
Paul,
Norm's username is Norm. I'll be picking up the bike tomorrow. Almost reminder that my engine is a 620 so I'm not sure if the header is exactly the same.
what's the good word jager? are you up and running yet?
i've wired mine, but still need to make a battery box, but that's no biggie as there's so much more room in there now.
still hand-wringing over the exhaust. i found a shop locally that would do it, but they want me to leave the bike for 3-6 weeks. it's a custom chopper shop who did a really sa-weet set of straight pipes for a friend's monster, so i know it would be done well, but anyways i guess the chopper crowd has no respect for making/keeping appointments......if i could just have access to the necessary tools for 6-8 hours i could friggin do it myself....
Paul,
I have the bike back, Norm did an awesome job. He hooked me up with some freebies as well. I haven't made any progress yet since I don't have a work space. But I start moving into my new place w/ garage today so I hope to get some work done this weekend.
