Default Best SS Fairings?

Hey y'all. I recently bought + painted a set of Sharkskinz race fairings for my 900SSie.

They are VERY light, so light that I was impressed that they were able to keep them sturdy. But the more I think about it, and the more I look back at how much I seem to crash out on the track, the more I realize that I'll go through a set of fairings every month. Does anyone know of some thick, sturdy, durable replacement fairings for racebikes?

I tried racersden, and they horribly soured me, so I'm looking for other places. Any opinons? I dont care about the weight. I'll worry about that when I stop crashing.

Actually the sharkskinz crash very well. Just get a second set of panels - AND DON'T CRASH!

The sharkskinz do crash well. They're pretty flexible, so are less likely to crack than bodywork that's thicker and very rigid when your bike hits the pavement.

rebel, what all did you get with the shark skinz? I saw they have an upper and lower, but I am looking for a tail section like the ones they have for an older SS.

I'm interested in 'em too. Rebel, I think you and I have the same bike. Mind if I ask price (did you paint yourself?).

And mounting? Hard? Easy? Hardware involved?

Dude, thick hard glass breakes a lot easier than thin good quality thin VERY flexible type like Sharkskins or Body Armour.

Emailed them (five times now actually) about decals and fairings. Never got a response. At all. nothing. Not a "Sorry we're busy" or a "piss off". Nothing.

Turned me off from them for life. No matter what anyone says, they wronged me, bad.

I ordered a solo race tail with #1 stickers for each side. Two and a half months later, I got a street tail (a bit croocked) with no stickers. Contacted them and a month later I got two stickers for the right side and none for the left side.
I think I'll try

for the sides next spring.

How good is the quality of the beasley stuff? Is it ready to be painted like the Sharkskinz or do you need to do some preliminary work / prime them before painting?

The Beasley tailsection I used on an old race bike was gelcoated like the original LP stuff that everyone hates. It's brittle, and you'll have spiderweb cracks in your paint in short order. I bought this piece at least five years ago, so it's entirely possible that he has changed his construction techniques since then. If not, I'd steer clear if you're looking for anything better than basic race glass.

Sharkskinz fabs a new-style SS tail for BCM. We own the mold so you have to buy through us. $250 includes tail and underseat support which can be modified into a breather box. See pic on site in article on Race of Champions winner Mike Dube (800SS).

Do you have any pics or the reaer tail section? I have a ss1000ds that I will probably put on the track halfway through the '05 season.

Thanks, Ted Duncan
