Question V-Twin Motul Oil Question?

I have a 1995 Supersport 900 ss/sp that I really cleaned up and tuned very nice. Anyways, I bought a whole case of the Motul V-Twin Synthetic Blend 20w50 oil. Apparently this is oil designed specifically for V-Twins, but with Harley's in mind. I obvisouly can't use this in my Honda RC51 Race bike, but i am hoping I can use this in my Ducati. Has anybody consistently used this oil with their V-Twin Supersports? I only use this Supersport for in town cruising and cayon carving, and i want to make sure it is ok for my bike. Thanks.

i use the other mobil 1 synthetic - don't remember the part number. it is suppose to be geared more towards sport bikes per mobil's site. but, this is like asking "what is the best hunting rifle".......

Yes you can use that oil. IMO Motul is some of the best oil (no I don't want to start another oil thread!). I use their fully synthetic 300V 15W50. You definately don't want to use a 10-30 or 10w40!

Actually its not asking that at all. This is a very specifically designed oil, and I wanted to make sure that it will be a safe oil to run in my Supersport.

Thanks for the advice Marvin.

Ducati, calls for a 15-50 full synthetic for a dry clutch which is what you have. I dont think we need to start an argument about brand of oil, but use a full synthetic made for motorcyles, and if it is not made from a mineral base you are better off. I like the Spectro myself, it is blended from Mobil base stock which I belive is synthisied from natural gas.

I think you have very good oil and it will probably be fine. However a couple of years ago in an oil debate someone who seemed very knowledgeable said that Motul lacked certain metal components that had the purpose of protecting the gears in the tranny -- this was also given as the reason that auto oils are not that great for bikes that have the crankcase and tranny share the oil because enging lubrication is somewhat different than Tranny needs. Maybe this is a new product that now has this metal content and is good for trannys too.

I'm using Mobil V-Twin in my 96 SS and just forgetting about it.

This oil is specifically designed for a v-twin engine, however it is not designed to double as a clutch oil for example. I do not want to mispeak about this oil. i am going to check with Motul and see what they have to say specifically about using it in my Ducati and my RC51. Lets see what they say.

Default V-Twin Motul Oil Question

I'm sure it's an excellent oil. I'm a believer in just changing it often, whatever you use. My 900ss sp has 34k and I have used nothing but Mobil 1 auto oil (15-50w). My friend has over 55k on his, and has always used, "whatever is on sale (non-syn auto oil). He believes if they have the same rating, they have to meet the same specifications, thus they are all the same. He has an argument. I think the main problem is not the engine, but the gears that oil has to lubricate.

Just to close on this topic. I heard back from the folks at Motul, and they said this oil is fine for both of my bikes. However, they suggested that my race bike gets full synthetic if possible. They also suggest that I use a 10w40 instead of the 20w50 oil for cold weather riding. Other than that, they said it is a great oil for my Ducati. Hope this helps everyone.
