Default Nichols lightened flywheel

Will Nichols or other brand lightened flywheel "really make" a difference? Noticeable experience?

Yes they do..... Nicholes is nice but you can get a ducati performance one which isn't as light but it's much easier on the wallet.

very noticable difference. that and a 1 front or 3 rear sprocket change are the best 'bang for your buck' mods you can do.

I have a kämna light alloy flywheel and my gasresponse improved greatly.. reducing weight in revolving mass is always a good idea...

The DP is cheaper? Really that is surprising from my experience. I must look into that. Thanks for the tip!

As a reliable alternative, I had my OEM flywheel turned down by BCM to something like 2.5 lbs. So not as light as the Nichols/DP but certainly not as heavy as it was.

I had this done back in the Bruce BCM days and he explained it to me that the OEM flywheel was weighted to help the bike idle smoothly with the lean stock air/fuel mixture. When I had him richen my fuel map the OEM flywheel no longer needed to be so heavy. This is going back a couple of years but I think I paid something like $80 for the service.

I just picked up a DP one today. Should have it in by sunday night, just in time for waiting until April.......

Oh yeah and the DP is slightly cheaper than the Nichols, not much though.

I just read elsewhere...that too light is not good as well. Has something to do with vibration during idling. I also spoke to BCM and they mentioned that Nichols is too light. I did not ask why as I’m sending my bike for service anyway and I’ll deal with it when that time comes.

????? never had an issue with my nichols flywheel.

the nichols flywheel is not too light unless you're trying to scramble over roots, tree branches, boulders and you're stalling out in your trials competition.

then again i don't offer flywheel machining services either...
