Default '97 900SS CR Dragging Kickstand

My kickstand is dragging on tight left handers. I almost lost the rear the other day. Would adding a 5.5" wheel with a 180 tire help at all? Suggestions???

Thanks

Well that's a new one.

My headers scrapped before my kickstand, even on the track - still ended up taking the kickstand off...

In my humble opinion, I would think a 180 tire would allow you to lean even more - the experts can chime in here.

Try raising the back end to get a bit more clearance...

I personally have never dragged the sidestand, only exhaust and footpegs on the track. Go to your local dealer of any brand and measure the circumference of the 180 tire, then measure the circumference of the 160 you have on the bike. That will show you if the 180 you are looking at will raise the back of the bike. You can also use an afermarket shock with ride height adjustment or a longer shock from a post 99 SS.

formula for radius is: R=C/(2*PI)

Radius will tell you how much the rear ride height will change with an unloaded tire.

hang off more..

at some point it would be inevitable but you might be able to solve it for now by getting of the bike a bit more to unload that rear.

Nope never drug my stand before (unless you count the numerous times I forgot to put it up) My headers drag long before the stand does. Perhaps your stand was bent at some point it time

Wow thats pretty bad......what I can't believe is your not touching the header down first Here is a picture of me...if you look close you can see a dark oval area on my hear pipe just below the kickstand where I drag. IMHO Your kick stand has bent somewhere to be sticking out enough to drag, either the arm is bent or the actual bracket where is attaches to your motor

OK, I'll get a pic with the stand up, but when it's up, it doesn't look like bruntr's does.

Thanks.

Could you be touching the side stand with your foot, pushing it down while you are cornering ? I have noticed every once in a while the side stand light flash when I had my foot under the shift lever, as I was moving the stand enough to trigger the light switch.

I think the exhaust should still touch first unless you have an aftermarket header with more clearance.

Maybe, but wouldn't I feel the pressure from the side stand against my foot when it scrapes? I'll post a pic up close with the side stand up later on today.

Thank you.

I agree with Bruntr's assessment.

Here are 2 pics with the sidestand up. The piece that attaches the sidestand to the engine seems to make the sidestand stick out more. What do you make of it?

Thanks

Humm........might be me but I think it sticks out a little more than normal in that second picture. Unfortunately my bike is all apart right now so I can't go check mine. Fully retracted it looks like you should drag your peg and boot as well I vote it's bent somewhere You might be able to tell if the mounting bracket is bent by taking the stand off.. for the most part mine is flat

PS....You have the same slave cyl as me

Your stand isn't bent.

I have a '99 900ss that I do the occasional track day with.

It has a 180 skin on a 5.5" stock rim.

The stock stand drags hard just as the pipe is starting to touch at the elbow.

Adding more ride height helps, but hanging off further is cheaper.

FWIW, I've gotten into the habit of ditching the stand when at the track.
