Default WTF! I thought these things were bulletproof

My duc 2003 ss with only 3000miles needs new valve guides (quoted $1000 can). As some of you may know i bought this in Fla with 1641 miles on it and never really felt it ran right. I put on about 1500 miles this summer. The shop that may do the work asked me if i wanted the larger displacement kit for just the cost of the parts (any advice?). Also is gonna use an aftermaket guide that is a little more resiliant, and said something about "swirl cutting the valves" . I have no idea what this means but he was talking about a modest HP gain from this. Power does not interest me that much I just want a crisp linear accel right to rev limiter. Or do I forget it and pick up a new BMW r1200s or f800s.

Ducati is covering valve guides as defective on the 1000DS motor talk to your dealer.

That would be awesome but i gather a decision like that would have to come from DNA. The dealership i was talking to has already suggested that warranty would not cover it, but i will contact DNA personally and see what they can do. Thanx.

If you do any engine work like putting a big bore in, make sure you balance your crankshaft.

Some dealers may not be aware of the deal but it's definitely out there. Rather than recall or issue a public bulletin it's more of ask and keep quiet policy. M

thing that sucks is i was tearing down for big bore and dealer was the bike fully assembled to just dissassemble then reassemble
the won't just take the heads and do it. DNA

the guides were overbored from the factory.

That's the first good laugh I've had all day.

Finally got the word at the toronto supershow. If it is valve guides, DNA & Ducati TO will repair. Gonna change the belts while they are at it. Gonna leave the mill original too. I will give a report upon completion.
