Default Wheel fitment for 900SS?

I've been considering putting some lighter wheels on my FE but I don't have a billion bucks to spend on a new set. So....could anyone tell me what Ducati wheels will fit....maybe I can find a used set of Marchesini's or something like that, but I suspect they would be advertised for other bikes.
Thanks,

Hi Bob. I mounted a set of Marchesinis on my '98 900CR some years back. They were advertised to fit that year's 900 monster as well. Hope this is some help to you.

Regards,

Jeff

Yes...very helpful. Thanks Jeff. Ducati's are so cross-pollinated in other parts that a set of '98 Monster wheels fitting my FE makes sense. Hope I hear from others....gives me a larger pool to fish from.

From what I have gathered, the 900SS fronts were 17mm axle from 1991 to 1993. 1994 to 1998 SS front went to a 20mm axle. Rears on 1991 to 1998 SS bikes are all 17mm axle.

1999 and newer SSie bikes use the 25mm Superbike hollow front axle. Not sure about the rear, it may still be 17mm.

As far as Monster vs SS compatability, no idea, but I believe a fork swap is required to use the modern 25mm front on a 1991-1998 SS bike.

What the hell, you own an FE, spring for some Marchesini's

Hope this helps, Ed.

DesmoEd is spot on the applications.
Monster fronts followed the same year changes but the 2002+ monster went to 25mm rear.

Changing the front wheel to 20mm from 25mm is not that difficult but changing a 25mm rear to 17 is a chore as spacing in the sprocket carrier is difficult.

The 17mm rear is getting hard to come by but not impossible. It just takes a little planning. We stock it in the BST carbon wheels but we have to special order it in Marchesini and only stock it from time to time.
