Default Part it or Fix it??

Just picked up a 93 900ss with intentions of fixing it for a friend. He's been riding a Monster 620 and looking to move up. After looking at prices of used 900's it may not be worth fixing. Motor is blown, pushing oil and making some interesting noises. I've done plenty of 748-999's but this is the first SS. Any idea what I should pay for a used low mileage 2v motor? Anyone have one? Bike's a Superlight clone with lots of trick parts on it so I'd hate to see it parted.

I see nice 900 motors going for under a grand a lot. Just be patient and you'll find one. I generally see them at ducatimonster.org or ebay.

I agree with DesmoWorks, fix it. There are lots of engines out there. 92 thru 97, the 98 had a three phase alternator which is better but wiring issues would have to be addressed (not a big deal). Monster engines work too!

Market price on a used 900 is about $1000. If you can find one that has had a motor mount welded, it should be cheaper.

I have a '99 900SS motor, not to mention a number of parts with it. I parted the bike as I was(and still may) do a frame up race bike for next year. I have several other motors, so losing the 900 isn't a big deal. The mud in this one is that I bought the bike(as explained) really for getting the cams, so I have a 900 motor, just less cams(They are going into my 750SS, with the heads being DD and fitting 50mm TB's to them. ).

Anyway, if interested, say $500 shipped and you can put whatever cams you want into her(I suggest ST2 cams )

Hey Dave B. I tried to send PM but your inbox is full. So here it is!
[quote=Dave B.]Marvin'

Hi Dave, It started out as a 94' M900 with broken cases. It isn't even together yet, just have the bottom end together. I have 99' SSIE cases (stronger), all new bearings, crank is magnafluxed and balanced, rods recondioned and magnafluxed, new bearings and bolts. 02' 748 transmission (close ratio, low miles), flywheel lightened and balanced with crank. jugs sent to Millennium for bore and re -Nikasil, JE 944 pistons. will port heads and degree cams, set squish to 1mm. also have 41 flatslides, dyna coils. Yeah, bummer about the M. Challenge. Let me know if you're interested

Dave:

I'm parting out a 1997 900ss/sp, including the engine (see thread in the Supersport section). If you're still looking, drop me an email; I have the link active while I'm parting out the bike. Maybe we can work something out...

Bob

Dave, Still can't PM you,
I am working on getting a pristine 95' SSSP from a friend with 6K miles on it. That engine might be up for grabs. I would put my 944 engine in the SS.
