Default Open clutch cover question

Hi, is there any cons regarding removing the clutch cover and fit an open carbon cover? What about dirt and dust and recommendations if it's good to replace beside the visual part ?
Also about maintenance, any special recommendations?

I had used an open cover for awhile, but my clutch is nearing the end of its life (getting pretty loud..even for me!), so I put the stock cover on. Here's what I found:
The open cover seems to keep the clutch cooler in hot temps, and allows dust to blow right out. The stock cover keeps all that carbon dust inside, and you have to blow it out frequently in order to keep it working smoothly like the open cover allows.
There is no real worry about getting crud in your clutch unless you go through a mud pit.. The only extra you might want to invest in is stainless springs and bolts ($30), as they will rust over time.

Carbon covers should be thought of as just over zero protection for the clutch in an off that targets the right side of the bike - just as another thought for your question

As already mentioned, open covers do offer bettering cooling and allow the dust to blow out. I also decided to stay away from carbon and went with stainless for better protection. Cycle Cat makes good stuff and sells through 'On Cycle'.

The only drawback is noise, but only when you are sitting on the bike and allowing it to just tick over. Pull the clutch lever in, throttle on, and the noise abates. I don't even notice it anymore.

Default Cycle Cat Cover

Here's a little better view of one of the styles offered by Cycle Cat.
