Default Rear Shock Length; Older v Newer Model SS

Does anyone know the difference in length between to older (early to mid-90s) SS rear shocks, and the newer (2000 and up) models?

I have read that the later shocks will fit, but they are a little longer and thus change rear height. Anyone know by how much?
