Default Wet to dry conversion

I want to convert my 750ss wet clutch to dry. Has anybody done this? If so, can I have some details on how you do it? Thanks

Well it can be done but its not cheap. You basically have to mae a bunch of spacers and such and use a dry clutch cover or you can split your cases and install a 6 speed trans and output shaft from a dry clutch model.

Might be easier and less aggravating to install a 900 motor instead.

My 2c YMMV

The guy that won the first Monster Challenge, DucStew on the Ducati Monster List, swapped the clutch on his 750. He, and another "swapper" on the DML, don't recommend this for weekend wrenches.

Look in the SoCal section of the DML and you should be able to find a post from Stuart and send him a PM or get the link to his site. He's pretty free with info.

As mentioned in the previous post, an engine swap is probably easier and might even be cheaper.

Good Luck.

Maybe not such a good idea! How about a 5 to 6 speed swap?? That may be more practical for my needs. Anyone done this mod??? Thanks for the help!!

It is actually not that bad. The hardest part is getting the damn primary gear off. You just switch out the primary gear from your 750 to one from a dry clutched bike (900ss would be best). You also need the clutch driven gear, the one that mounts up to the basket. You might want to get the primary and driven gear from the same bike model, or make sure the teeth numbers match up. The input shaft on the wet clutch models are shorter than on the dry ones. So you have to get a clutch hub that you can machine down a good 5-10mm. I used the yoyodyne lightweight clutch kit and got it machined down. Duckstew did it the same way IIRC. Push rod is also a little short, so you have to fab a 'corse button' I think that is want Bruce called it. Really it is a pretty easy conversion.

Not sure but I don't think the dry clutch 6 speed will work with the wet clutch cases, atleast it is listed that way on Brad's site. You can get the corse 6 speed for the 620/750 (from 800 IIRC) from DP, I think it is around $650.

Of course the above is not a technical write up so if you have questions feel free to ask.

Oh yeah prices:
$600 yoyodyne clutch kit
$10 machining of hub (should be cheap)
$150 clutch plates
$50-150 primary and driven gears
$? primary gear removal (I paid $99 for a hydro gear puller that worked great, DP tool is like $300 or something, I would just take it to the dealer and have them pop that sucker off)
$100 Dry Clutch cover

I think that is it. Everything other than the primary pull and machining can be done by anyone that can turn a wrench. No splitting of the cases.
