I am stiil tremblng. I have just achieved a dream and purchased the Ducati I have always wanted; a 1996 900ss/sp with 13K on the clock...
I have never owned a Duc or even ridden one and after having put a grand total of 22 miles on the thing getting it home I must say it is even more that it is cracked up to be. I have to change my scivvies.
Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Crow and I live in Austin, TX and I look forward to learning from you people as I explore my new bike.
Oh man do I know that feeling! I've lusted after the early SS bikes ever since I saw my first one in a cycle world mag back in the early 90's. (I still have the picture of it I cut out of the mag) Well three years ago I finally made the leap and got my 93SS and I have loved every minute of it! Drove it home on a blistery Feb day.... I didn't care..... you couldn't erase my smile (cause it was frozen) No need to say it but Enjoy! And welcome to the club!

Congrats. I never understood the whole early supersport craze myself, but to each his own I guess. Speaking of track days, I would love to take out my SS on one, how do I find one near me? (Chicago)
Welcome to the board and congratulations on the sweet ride. Don't hesitate to post whenever you have questions. There is a lot of knowledge floating around here and folks always seem to be willing to help out.
Best regards,
Jeff

Well some of it might have to do with this, my daily...
I tend to be a big fan of serviceable, utilitarian motorcycles. I put about 200 to 250 miles a day on that XR. I see the carbed SS as the last great cafe racer. I can actually learn to and afford to work on it (read modify) and ride it all over the country. I plan to keep the mods within reason and mild. I wanna see just how long this sucker will last. I view my ownership of this bike as a stewardship.
As to track days, that is behind me, at least for now. I do drag race and am building an H1 powered beast for that.
Thank you all for welcoming me and I will sit back and learn for now.

Take a look at sportbiketracktime.com. Good organization and they do events at Autobahn. You've also got Gingerman ( South Haven, Mi ) and Blackhawk...

Thanks Chaas and thanks quickdraw. I was thinking about asking around at the local Motorcycle Retail Monopoly here in chicago, but I figure to them it's all about retail and very little with the actual sport of it.
