Default GP shift on carby 900ss

Well it's getting complicated with the LH shifting (1 down/5 up) on
the 900SS/FE and the RH shifting (1 up/4 down) on the 750GT. Trying
to remember the shifting from the 2 bikes PLUS changing from LH to RH
and back is frying my brain!

So, I want to change the 900SS/FE to a GP shift (1 up/5 down) like
how the 750GT is now, so that I only have to worry about the change
between LH and RH shifting.

Is it just a matter of changing the joint below the long shift arm to
be above the long shift arm on the 900SS/FE? I think it will work.
Any thoughts?

TIA

TIA

Default 900SS/FE GP shift

i have a '98 FE. GP shift works great on Super Sports.
moving the clamp on the shift-shaft is the right way to make this change. be aware of the position as it relates to the foot control. since this will be different direction, you'll want to know what feels comfortable to you for up-shifts (that you'll pad down), and back-shifts (that you'll toe up).

i also understand trying to keep track of which bike shifts which way. all my bikes with linkage use GP shift. I have an older Honda XR that has no linkage. i can't count how many times i've slapped a back-shift when on the gas off a turn. makes for some wicked slides! (and "i meant that" if i don't fall!!)
working on a '69 Triumph T100-C (ala Steve McQueen). it has RT side shifter.

BTW: upgrade your clutch slave. it makes a difference. i use the Evoluzione. if you get one, make sure you inform you use GP shift (the lower slave bolt is shorter to clear the shifter)

Me too, some people don't like it setup that way, b/c there is really only one way it would go on my newer ss and still have enough travel it shift up and down. But its a free mod, so if you don't like it you can just buy a gp shift lever and call it a day.

That is what was done on the '92 SS that I have. The PO raced a Norton Production Racer, and switched over to GP shift for that reason. Comming from my Norton, it is nice to have another machine with a proper shift pattern. The Problem is that I also have a '74 BMW, and a '68 BSA 441(long term project). Each with a different side and pattern as well. I'm working on getting all of them on an up-for-down pattern to make things easier.

winder: which FE do you have?

the mod works fine and there's enough clearance for the Yoyo clutch slave too.

thanks all - although I'll be riding the GT for a while =) !
