Default Picked up my SS 1000 DS today...

actually picked it up twice....second time was off the asphalt after the front tire slid on some ice in the parking lot as we were loading it on the trailer ( one more reason i would like to move to cali ). Cracked the left mid fairing and got some nasty scratches, also busted left mirror. Felt like I was gonna throw up...so pissed off.

Any ways.... fired her up and boy this baby is loud ( maybe too loud ) Might look at putting factory exhaust back on it ( it came with REMUS, any one wanna trade )

This is a 2003, so it is fuel injected right????? (i know stupid question) but the manual choke on the left clip on has me wondering

Also it has a 190 tire on the rear, stock is 180.......right?????

And when started the display flashes "LO" in the bottom right screen next to the degrees sign. does this change to numerical indicators for temp or does it change to "med" "high" and "omg i am smokin". How long do these babies take to warm up... I ran it for a while and still could not reduce the high idle without stalling.....

I bought this bike over the internet and did not get the owners manual with it so i can't look it up. I also cannot ride it yet as i am still recovering from a nasty hi side. Thanx any advise about little peculiarites associated with operating this bike would be appreciated

dibs on the trade. i have the full pipe mod to the factory cans by strati.

www.ducatipipemod.com

i also have a spare stock set. let me know.

sorry to hear about the tip over. check out sharkskinz. i just bought a race seat.

fuel injected - yes.

temp guage will read 'low' until it gets to the normal operation range, then it will give a numerical readout. will take forever sitting in the driveway. need to run it.

stock tire is a 180. go back to it with your next tire change. (better with the 5.5" rim).

buy a factory shop manual. cost a fortune, but worth it. owner's manual isn't much good. hope you got a red key.

great bike. you will enjoy. welcome.

AND: if you got the RED key, which we all hope you got, DO NOT USE IT.

Thanx....yeah ...got the red key and the codes card. Took off my fairings today and took them to a friend that I let paint my beemer. The scratches aren't that bad but he will plasti-weld the small crack and repaint the left mid and lower fairings. Just need the paint code for red color ( i assume that it is in the owners manual which i don't have) Info anybody???? I will also have to order in the factory decals as well as the plastic ducati corse badge that i guess the previous owner added. The mirror is $101.00 dollars so that won't break the bank. (Just the mid fairing up here was almost $900.00 ,that's why i am painting) Quickdraw i am interested in trading or buying your factory pipes,, these remus pipes are sooooo loud (woke the dead in the nearby cemetary ) do you also have the factory muflfer brackets and pass. footpegs. The remus pipes on the bike are hi-rise and have aftermarket footpegs and brackets....thanx all...

have your friend digitally color match the paint since the bike could have faded slightly since new.
e-mail Scott for decals. (skarcheski@verizon.net) he's inexpensive, high quality and delivers fast.
too bad about the drop. look at it this way: it can only get better from here.

Dennis Kirk has a mirror aftermarket that matches exactly for $20.99, and if you are worried it wont match exactly.. you can get both.. no one has noticed any difference in mine yet.. part numbers are 39-1590/39-1591.. just a thought that saves a few $$

sent you an IM about the cans.

you might want to consider some CRG mirrors. pretty penny, but really clean up the lines of the bike.

I have a brand new (never started) exhaust/cans, as well as a brand new set of red bodywork off at 2005 1000SS. All came off before the bike was started.

cans 150
full exhaust 250
bodywork (w/out tank) 1500.

body work is entire thing, include seat, tail, handgrab, windscreen, etc. If I'm off on price my fault, but my dealer said it would be well over $2200 for everything.

that's tempting. I dropped off the fairings already and my body guy says no problem repairing and painting, should have them back in a week. (the guy is awesome and italian so he knows what is at stake) Ordered the mirror, and decals today and picked up a new set of the same aftermarket signals that were damaged (lockhart phillups) One question though about the signals.. When i installed the new one on the left front and tried the signals they (left front and rear) flash twice nomally and twice quickly and repeat. Is this the bulb or am i missing a resistor or something. I even removed the bulb from the new set in put it in the harness for the wrecked signal....same thing happens (must be the bulb) The right side is fine.
And one more thing...the clip-ons? when the steering is approaching full lock my Knuckles almost hit the fairing and mirrors. The bars are mounted above the top T-clamp.... normal???? does this happen to anyone else. My hands are med to large in gloves.

It sounds like you may have your wires crossed on the signals. Either that or make sure your other bulbs are not burned out. I would start with that. The only reason you would need a resistor is if they are LED's.

Do you know if the bike had risers installed? That may be why your hands are almost hitting. If you take a pic of your clip-ons where they mount along with your triple, we would be able to tell you.

Okay...left front signal damaged in drop...bought set of two replacememt signals. First one out of the pack...intermittant signaling....tried the second one ....it's signaling normally......go figure. As for the clipons they appear to be factory and are mounted above the top triple clamp and there is no room for adjustment. Just so diff. from my Gixxer. Like I said at full lock (manouvering in the garage) my knuckles graze the mirrors.....

Hey Boom Boom. Can you post a photo where and how the corse decal is positioned? I have a Corse decal that I intend to put but debating where to position it.

Anyone else here have a photo of the official Corse badge on the bike?

it is located right in front of the "D" in ducati on the right side panel and behind the "I" on the left side panel. This is my bike....
