Default Rear Seat Cover 2005 SS 1000

I've been looking for a passenger seat cover. I have a 2005 SS 1000 in grey and I see that Ducati sells one for around $650 but I don't want it that bad. I've been to Sharkskinz but they only sell racing tail ends.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

If you just want a cover, a buddy of mine ordered one, painted, from germany couple months ago.. He got this one: http://www.ducati-kaemna.com/cms_en/...kel&artikel=12

took a month or so to get here, his is yellow, looks just like the one in the "mounted" pic, he's happy with it.

Thumbs down

I didn't think so at all! I had one that came from Kaemna and the part was thin and too tight to fit on the OEM seat - all it was was a thin fiberglass shell that clamped on to the passenger seat area. The gelcoat was thin and cracked right away - no surprise since you had to spread the "legs" of the piece to get it to clamp on the seat...and getting it off was a real bitch too. Not only that but there was no clearance with the side fairings so over time it would abrade the paint off of the contact points.

Thumbs down, IMO. Not worth the price or effort to get it here. The DP unit, althogh far from perfect is much better in all respects except the ree-damn-diculous price. I have the DP now and like it although it's gelcoat cracked as well. If I were to do it again I would buy either a Corbin or Sargent seat with the color matched tail area and cut the rear grab handle so the solo-seat idea is complete.

Just out of curriosity, did you change out the mounting pin on your seat to the one supplied with the cover? Made all the difference in the world for my buddy. It moved the seat up just a bit and forward just a bit. Doesn't rub anywhere. Most tail covers of that type spread/clamp over the stock seat in that fashion, or at least the ones I have owned did.

I didn't, but again there were no instructions either. No pin was supplied. That still doesn't change my opinion of the overall quality of the gelcoat or the fit. Too tight to the seat and too much effort was needed in order to get it to slide onto the seat without stretching the material. Again I may have had an early model, but this was only a few years ago and the pic online at kaemna is the one I saw in 2003.

Hey guys- Just for the record, the fit and finish on the DP part isn't so hot either. The paint is flawless, but I had to buy longer bolts just to get the thing on my bike. Also, the fit around the tail light was off. (not quite centered) I'm only so critical because I did pay $540 for the part.

I did the Sargent thing with colored passenger seat. Was the way to go I think. I like the way it looks and it is commmmmmfy. No fitment issues and you get better storage underneath with a little bungee, glovebox and far more practical access.

Save the hard & slippery stock seat for track days.

There are different solutions for the mono seat.

The cover from Kaemna in one of the previous supplies comes directly over the seat with use of the original side panel and grab bar.

I have installed this one. Also comes over the original seat but requires removal of the side panels and a different grab bar.

I just updated my reply. Can send you some pictures with cover removed. Don't know what brand this cover is but think it's DP. There are other suppliers of these covers like ricambi-weiss in Germany. I have just ordered a race fairing with them so I will let you know regarding the quality.

Regards,

dick

Doesn't look quite that easy, but I guess it's a possibility.
