Default Rear Wheel Nut

So.......... I pulled a doosy this weekend. Took my rear wheel to the nearest race shop to have my new Dunlop Qualifier installed. When reinstalling the wheel, I put the tapered spacer in backwards. Went for a short ride. (Steel) swing-arm got very hot and discolored a little, and now I can't get the spacer out to intall it correctly.... Any help or ideas (other than pay attention to how it comes apart next time)? Thanks.

Man!! I came THIS close to doing that very thing this weekend myself, I happened to notice that the bike was VERY stiff to push around... took it apart and saw that I had that little spacer wrong ..

I didn't look close, but, can you pull the bearings from the other side, then give it a rap with a tool through the wheel?

Think yourselves Lucky!

A few years back I had a tyre changed and they didnt put that spacer in at all!!

the sprocket carrier then proceded to machine/eat its way through the swing arm!

NICE!

natrually the tyre guys said it wasn't their fault, that they are proffessionals and did i think they were stupid???

Yes actually i did, and worse!

the doesn't show it for shisnick, so much for that $200. funny, i just received my haynes manual (the day after), doesn't cover my year, but i figured some things would apply, and sure enough, there is a special note showing to put the tapered side of the spacer in.

all in all, i got the spacer out. one of the local shops had a new spacer in stock. i'll be up and ready again tonight. $7.50 - probably the cheapest ducati lesson i will learn.

Bearings are ok? I would be worried that all that heat might have hurt them too.. I am guessing it must have worn the crap out of the spacer is why you needed a new one? It would ride against that little retainer in the hub.. Glad you got it a[art and can fix it cheap..

Yes. wide part against the swingarm tapered part against the bearing. I noticed it when I turned the spacer over in my hand, and there clearly was the dirt/grime/corrosion in a pattern that exactly matched the swingarm cutout...
