Well congratulations on the new bike! You made a great choice.
I have a few comments to this thread as I am 6'5 and weigh 240 without gear on.
My bike is a 2005 1000SS, bought new at premium Eurpean prices.
I commute every day 20 miles each way. So far 2,500 miles no issues what-so-ever.
1. Hard on wrists first 20 days, then I got used to it. I am weaker than average with 42 year old arms that look like pipe cleaners.
2. About resale. Why would I ever want to sell this bike?
a. I paid top dollar, which means I could have bought any other liter class bike if I wanted to buy one. I think when we buy a Ducati, that is the first statement we make. I could buy just about anything but I CHOSE this bike.
b. The bike does tiny wheelies easily in first and second gear out of corners. When it does not wheelie the rear wheel loses traction. So why would I want more power? I could not use it, except at top end. I can only imagine how these bikes feel to people who weigh 80 lbs. less than I do.
c. It's pretty scary on the roads I ride to go over 120 mph. But I ride at 100 mph every day on my commute (thanks to living in Europe). So every month I ride two hours total at 100-110 mph (10 miles, two times a day, twenty days a month) . It feels fast enough. How many people take their 'faster' bikes above 110 for even a few minutes a month (off track)?
d. The bike is wicked in turns. Given my advanced age, I will never be better than the bike.
So my point is, I LOVE THIS BIKE. Would I want ti ride a 749, or a Millie? You bet. Maybe I will buy one in a year.
As far as resale is concerned I could care less because unless I crash, this bike is never leaving me (thieves be warned).
For the guy who is so disappointed in this thread about the peice of junk he bought, I am sorry about his experience. But then you either get Ducati Super Sports or you don't.
When people say 'wow, that's a fast bike' I like being able to say, 'no, it's not really--there are way faster out there." But after they ride one they always seem to have a smile on my face.
truer words have never been spoken...trust me over 50% depreciation in 3 months and it still hasn't sold. BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!
Nick. I have tried to help you, and so have many others on this website.
I have owned, and raced two Ducati's [748, and 750SSie], for 4 years, and they have never left me out.
All you do is whine about your experience. If you haven't sold the bike, maybe you should take a close look at your TECHNIQUE. Bashing the sh*t out of your own bike doesn't make it very attractive. I am actually beginning to have doubts that you are truely even selling it. Maybe you have nothing to do, and no other forums to hang out on.... You need to move on. You are quite obviously not a part of the Ducati community, or won't be soon.
Initially, I felt sorry for you..that your first experience went so poorly. I even know where, and who you bought it from [so I know the "other side" of the story]
All your posts are negative...nothing helpful to contribute.
Nick, GO AWAY...buy a honda rebel 450 maybe....
Oh, and for my purposes [7 lap sprints]...I think the SS is quite comfortable.
Lol...Yep, Bob...thats what I meant
Actually, my ignorance was showing...I didn't even know they made two sizes.
But, I figured I'd help nickg out, and post this nifty site so he can get some customizing ideas...

well, i will, I am filing for them to take it back under the lemon law. So I am unsure what i am gonna buy. I was thinking about an sv650 actually, but hopefully the Shitcati experience will be long forgotten. As for the guy you know who i got it from, talk to him a week from now about how the small claims suit is going , bet he would not like to talk about how they ripped me off and charged for a service that was never done, ot that they used my bike for parts prior to selling it as a "new", anyway who cares, I will be done with it shortly
i definately already do. and to be honest, its not uncomfortable at all. if i wasnt so fat and had a smaller gut, it would probably be really comfortable. o well....time to hit the gym
