Default Chain Question and Pic..

Anyone see the O/X rings o their chains do this...Look above the nut, looks like o-rings are getting shredded..it is happening at several spots on my chain, fairly new chain (3000 miles) and well taken of of, lubed routinely..

I have seen it before, on a dirt bike as well as my old 996 track/street bike. Chain stretch will cause that. You need a new chain anyway. I would make sure the chain alignment is good when you replace it.

Someone on another forum had the same issue. Time for a new chain, but you already knew that.

Hey guys, he says there is only 3000 miles on it, so not really worn out yet! I've seen that situation before on almost every chain I've run. To me it's normal, maybe not to others.... YMMV

Thanks gents for the replies...I ordered a new chain a while back, but the mileage on the chain is not that high....the gray color on the inner links is chain lube enhanced by the camera flash.

I do think I my have been a little harder on this chain i.e. I switched back from GP shift to standard shift, because I am dirt biking again...this caused one or two rear end sliding down shifts when I was expecting an upshift . Thats not too good for the chain...

The chain is on loose, I always go towards the loose side....(insert wise-ass comment). The sprockets are wearing even and not on the sides at all so I think the chain is aligned..

Hey Jay,
At the risk of asking a dumb question, and since you didn't mention it, what kind of chain lube are you using?
Some petroleum based chain lubes are not good for the o-ring chains. They can swell and soften the o-rings and cause just what your pictures show.
Just a thought.

Email the pic to DID and get their opinion. I did that with an RK Chain after installing a chain for the first time. I was so paranoid that I did not have enough of a mushroom at the master link that I asked for them to take a look.
