Default Thinking of H.I.D. for my 996, thoughts??

Was looking at this kit, which is at a local retailer.

Get Your Motorcycle GEAR at The Iron Pony: Looking for MOTORCYCLE CLOTHING? We sell MOTORCYCLE ACCESSORIES, ATV ACESSORIES, MOTORCYCLE STUFF, MOTORCYCLE PARTS CATALOG, MOTOCROSS, MOTORCROSS GEAR

Anyone else done the HID install? Any gotcha's? Thinking I'd like a MUCH brighter high beam for traversing the country roads out my way in the late night hours.

Tom

DDM Tuning : Motorcycle HID Kits

Keep the light color low for better sight of objects nearer to you. I'd suggest 5000 or less. I have 5000's but may go to 3000's.

i have them and love them. i have six k which are diamond whites or whatever, its best to have a euro headlight switch to keep them off while starting or let them warm up before cranking the bike to keep them from turning off.

HID is a huge improvement, makes the bike 'useable' at night.

edit:
I thought of this post while riding late at night yesterday. The 998 has the same headlight assy as the 996.

There is a short proximity of brighter light for approx 50 feet on high. Realistically the long distance light is really not improved much due to the light color.
*When I installed them I put a jumper in the handlebar switch to enable both hi and lo to operate at the same time when switched to high.
+1 Lush about the euro switch which I added after lamp misfires during engine cranking.

Sorry for the not so good news.

I also wired my switch to keep both lamps on while hi beam is on. There is a way around the misfire issue with out euro switch, unplug the ballast, or run a toggle in line off the bike harnes to the ballast, when the hid misfires alot it makes you restart the bike over again and it can effect the lifespan of the bulbs, hope this helps! Btw you won't regret the hids they are great as long as you stay in the 6000k or lower range, low is yellow and 5000k is white, 6000k has a hint of blue depending on brand, anything higher is getting close to purple and has no real visibility improve ment, people can see you but you can't see the road

Wow, DDM kit for $25 smackaroos. that's cheap !

I would order the kit right now but I forget if the high beam is a H1 or other type of bulb. Anyone know for sure what type bulb the high beam is ?

I only want to upgrade the high beam side, so no euro switch needed. I can simply flip to low and back to high if the light cuts out.

Thanks for the referral to the DDM kit Old Fart !!

High beam is H1, low beam is H3.

I prefered these instead in extreme yellow bulb. Made my 996 and it look like a endurance racer with the one headlight hole cutout.
