Default 2005 999r valve adjust

Just had the valves checked at 14+K and they're still within specs, though one is close to the limit. Just curious if other 05/06 999r owners are getting the same milage before adjustment is needed. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Raced an '05 999R and track day for 2 years. All were still in spec. I heard the same from another 749R owner. I would still follow the recommended service interval.

Default She's a keeper!

The valve keeper system in this bike/motor was far more advanced than the models before it. A little tough to set, but once done they are good to go.....

As DucMarauder noted, the valve retaining circlips are similar to the MBP setup on the Ti-valved Ducs. Makes adjusting them a bit trickier, but they stay in spec much longer, less broken circlips, etc. Especially on the slightly lower revving 999R vs the wound for sound 749R.

I heard you have to remove the heads in order to replace a closer shim on the 05 and newer R bikes. Is this true?

John, that's what my dealer is telling me. The heads use o-rings vice actual metal gaskets.

I just heard they lowered the price on those gaskets radically, not first hand though, worth looking up though.
