shock revalve for longer swingarm
Can the stock Ohlins shock be revalved for a longer swingarm, or would need to get another shock....... or would I even be able to tell?
thanks paul

I live close to the factory in sweden and they used to do that kind of jobs but not any more, but if you ask them by mail it may be possible. Explain your situation and go from there.

I thought the longer swingarms included a different linkage to compensate? Otherwise I suppose a heavier spring and valving may be in order.

Every tuner should be able to do that for you. Isnīt there a good one in Canada?
I read of a tuner over in the States. There are even a couple of very entertaining threads on him and his business style here and over at .ms. Just forgot the company name...
Nevermind, just kidding. Did you ask DucShop, this Dan Kyle dude or how about Dave Moss from the kickass OnTheThrottle.tv suspension videos?
He seems like a good guy to talk to.

My guess would be you would need slower damping, because the force on the shock should be bigger as you extend the swingarm length and therefore the lever arm.
But then, itīs just a wild guess and I am not a suspension tuner.

Assuming you mean on a 916/996/998/748 chassis and you have an Ohlins shock that is sprung and valved correctly for the stock swingarm you might need a slightly stiffer spring and to set the damping to match if you just add alonger swing arm. If you also change to the "corse" style rocker you will definetley need a significantly stiffer spring and the shock revalved to match.
Either way you do not need a new shock.
Don't know about Canada but Peter Kates at PK suspension/Computrak Boston 508-876-9407 knows his stuff.

Not to threadjack, but where do people keep coming up with these swingarms? I keep seeing people talking about them, but I never see them for under $2600, surely you all aren't paying that, right?

Thatīs the proper market price for them as it appears.
Iīd guess there are more unobtainium items being sold then youīd think. I donīt even believe there were only 1500 DesmoRRs, Bayliss editions, Hayden editions, blablabla. Just because the demand is so high.

Ducshop set mine up (998 w/longer swingarm). Not sure about the valving, but they bumped me from an .85 spring to a .95.( I weigh 150 lbs)
I have the 27 trees also, are you running the steeper head rake?

That is a job for Matt Carr at Ducati Indianapolis who races and tunes exactly what you are riding. 317 337 1098

Its the link, valving and spring rate, they all need to be changed. The swing arm's don't come with anything. In fact, its very hard to find the corse link now a days, you have to buy aftermarket ones from DK.

I'm also curious how different the link could be without needing a different stroke on the shock?

Yes, it can. There's a number of reputable service centers in the U.S.; don't know about Canada. You can even get it valved to work with the regular progressive link.
