Default Cam belt locks

I've noticed more and more on Ebay the "cam belt locks" for changing out belts. Is it really that easy to switch out the belts with using these? I would think by locking the pullys in place you could loosen up the tentioners and slid the new belts on etc.? Is it really that easy?

Yeah it is that easy. The only thing where the fits between the pulleys lock would be of value is IIRC the rear intake cam. This is under closer spring tension and must be held in position while the belt is slid on. No big deal and I wouldn't pop the $ for the holder.

You can make one if you have a piece of 3/4" plywood, a bandsaw (or hand coping saw, or jigsaw) and an old belt. I've never even bothered to do that as it isn't all that hard to change the belts without it. I guess if I worked in a shop where I was changing belts all day long it might be different.

I just turn the engine one tooth furter than the marking indicates, that way the intake cam will stand on the lobe, of course all other pulleys must be offset one tooht too.

i just put the vertical cylinder at tdc firing and set the cams 135 degrees anti clockwise from the marks (2nd hole around) to fit the vertical belt. then spin it over to the marks line up to do the horizontal.

Can also just use a $2 bottle of white out. While the old belt is on, put a little dab on each relevant belt and pulley. Remove the old belt. With both belts held together, mark the new belt in the corresponding places. Replace.

Default Cam Belts

I just held the pulley with my left hand and put the belt on with the right.

Took a few tries. Almost invited the wife out to help but it worked.
