Default Twitchy water temp gauge on 916

Hey Duc drivers.
I have my 97' 916 running like a top and about to go for its 12k valve adjustment but I want to fix up some odds and ends myself to save time and some $$$.

Ive done various maintenece items like oil, coolant myself at varting intervals so its not all being done at once and I find it easier to tackle one item at a time so its down time is limited. This is a method employed in the helicoper industry and it does work.
ANYWAY..back to question. My water temp guage is accurate but does seem to jump around during riding conditions gfoing over NY's pristine streets

Is there a an issue with the guage or is it the sender? Anyone wth experience with this??

One time I saw that and it was the water connection to the front cylinder that wasnt fastened properly, it was there and stuck in but not fastened fully.

Edit: I'm talking about the thermostat house.

I'm with Tom, look for a loose connection.

more specifically on toms comment.

the gauge sender is in the water outlet block from the front head. it is o-ringed into the front head outlet. holding it in is a 6mm cap head screw. this screw pulls the outlet block up against the outlet and is the earth path for the gauge sender pretty much. if it's loose the earth path isn't consistant and that's what affects the gauge ime.

Ill have to take a look at it when I get the body work off again. Its only jumpy when I am riding and after the bike warms up ( I think).

Either way Ill check it out. I hope my bud Marv takes a trip to NY to help me out with a 12k service!!!!!

"get the body work off again" wtf, if that is what is holding you back sell the bike
You better invert that to keep the fairing on when you like to ride...
