Default Ohlins Fork Fluid

Gents,

I have a set of Ohlins 46mm superbike forks. I've got to change the fork oil (seal change) and was wondering about fork oil substitutions for the original Ohlins stuff.

The Ohlins fork fluid I'm presently using is Ohlins No. 5 which is 15cSt @ 40C.

What equivalent oils have you guys used and how well did it work for you?

Desmo 11, You can use Spectro SX 400 which I have found to give close to equal performance (with regard to damping force vs adjuster setting). The Spectro is slightly higher viscosity but has a higher VI (I think).

The Ohlins #4 (PN/01311-01) is 15Cst and we sell that for about $25 a liter.

The Spectro would be closer to $12-15 (also in stock). At our shop, we use the Ohlins factory stuff in the Ohlins forks and shocks, once you get there, i don't fell like the savings is worth messing with (except in my own bike)

I was looking at VI index, flash point, and obviously viscosity @ 40 deg C.

The Maxima stuff looks pretty good, wasn't able to find any properties of Ohlins stuff...

FYI SV1000 fork seals seem to work ok. Don't have the seal weepage of the low stiction type seals...
