Default 996 stuck shift lever!

Hey, more problems with my 996.

I was out on the highway, and without any warning (at least none that I noticed) my shift lever stuck between 2 and 3. I rode on in 3rd for a bit, and was fiddling with the lever with my foot, it found its way into 5th (I think) and won't budge anymore.

This aside, I know of no other problems with the bike. I've got a set of allen keys, and might be able to scare up some wrenches, but beyond that I'm probably out of luck for tools, as I'm stuck at a motel in a small town.

Anybody have any idea of what the problem might be, and how (or if) I can fix it? I'd rather not pay someone to come get the bike, and take it to a shop somewhere. That sounds extremely expensive.

Thanks.

Yeap: 998 shifter locked up

You probably have to take the left side engine cover off, and pop the selector fork free if it's wedged like the picture in my post.

This happens because the adjustment for the range of shift motion gets screwed up. Basically, the bolts that hold it tight get loose and allow it to get out of whack.

Follow Mark's (Ducshop) advice or take it to the dealer and let them put the cute little tool on it and re-align it.

Mine did it twice but didn't do it again once I realized it just needed adjustment. I did it, and it's been fine since.

Check the end of the shifter-link aswell, I've seen the end tip bust and then when you shift fast it gets stuck. Easy enough to change your self and not that expensive either. Left cover must come off as mentioned.
