Default 996 Super-touring tire options?

Okay, I've read (most of) the tire thread, and now I need some advice.

My 996 currently has Bridgestone Battlax BT-002's on it, front and rear. The front is fine, but the rear is pretty much shagged.

I've no idea what kind of mileage the BT-002's give, since I've had the bike about 150 miles.

I'm about to embark on a 3000-3500 mile trip. (On the 996. Ridiculous? Yes.)

What sort of skin can I throw on the back that has decent grip, a similar warm up time, shape, etc. to the BT-002 front, and won't flatspot on me after a drive down the block?

Michilen 2CT's or any of the new brands with multy compounds will be fine. The stones you have are amazing for track days and fast road ridding, but you are correct. They will not last.

I'm in the same boat.. I've been thinking about putting a Metzeler roadtec Z6 to the rear.

or maybe a pirelli diablo or diablo strada.

touring on a 996? FUN!! not ridiculous.. (I have heli-bars..)

Just put 40 PSI in the tires for highway crusing etc....
And your supersoft tire will last.
(thats what we do when running down from Oslo(norway) to Nurburgring (germany) on soft/supersoft tires. An let the air out when doign track/twisty stuf to 30 to 32 psi.

No problem letting a Metzler Racetech Supersoft lasting the trip, even when with 1200-2000 km of Hard Autobahn rinding.

Just remeber that the tires does does not get the same temperature/grip as with 30-32 psi, and ride accordingly.

If trackdays, and "twisty roads" etc er where you are going to push your limits, I would not trust a "hard" touring tire.
(My friend who rides gsxr750 k6 had some Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires on for the trip was realy disapointed over the tires, bike etc, as his tires was sliping and sliding on the northsleife).

My friend on the the Ducati 749R with his Pirellis supercorsa BSB was very pleased ................. both with the bike and tires...........

I when on a set of Pirelly supercorsa sc2, best trip ever...........

Confidense that the tires does its job is everything....
