Here is an affordable little GPS receiver that we were trying out on Jarel's track bike on Monday.

One factory style connector and you're in business. One button sets the start/finish, works from a stop or in motion. Powered by the bike so no batteries. Uses GPS so no hit-or-miss infrared issues with the sun and unit mounting. Small enough that you don't really see it on a stock bike which is great for street/track guys that don't want ugly boxes taking away from their bike's lines.

No. The DP unit is quite a bit more costly.

It should work with the 749/999 as well as long as the pinouts on the plug haven't changed. Look for a 3pin weatherproof plug somewhere near the fairing stay or gauges. May be easier to find on a race bike.

If you want to find out I will gladly take it back if it doesn't work.

Hmmmm...I'll check tomorrow. It's setup for the track so it's pretty clean up front.
Wonder if you could also ask around to be sure it'll work for my bike. 2003 999R?

My 999 has this plug on the frame, right side, near the steering head. My repair manual lists it as FINISH LINE SENSOR, number 22 on wiring diagram. The wires are labeled +15, TRAG, GND. What do you think?

Anyone??? I wish I knew if this would work on my 999. I've compared the plugs with the Ducati performance unit listed on the website and they are the same...but...it's listed for the 1098-1198 only.
Anyone using this on the older bikes?????

I would like to know too if this works on the 999

Currently I use that connector with the IR-2 laptimer which is fine, but would love to get rid completely of the pit-wall tripod etc.

Well, any news if it does work ?

So the advantage here is being able to GPS pinpoint me on track maps correct?

Yes, and laptimes with splits.

This doesn't have track mapping or any of that functionality. It takes the place of the IR trigger for your lap timer.

If you want track mapping and what not, you'd want the Starlane Stealth. This unit works with your existing dash to trigger your lap timer using gps.

I like it too, but after all you don't need to replace it in order to get it to work with a lap timer.

I don't think he's saying that he knows for sure if it'll work on the 999.
Without someone actually buying it (not sure if I want to do that now, without really knowing it'll work without messing up my dash) and taking the risk, there may be another way to get closer to the answer.
We know that the plug (999) has been used to support a IR receiver for aftermarket laptimers (post above), so that's a good sign.
Now, if we could find someone with a 1098 shop manual that could take a look at the wiring diagram to find out if the plug is wired the same as my 999 (see above post)....it does look like the plug connections are the same, just have to know the wires???
Anyone willing to help? Should be a market for these (or the DP units) to owners of older bikes. If IT WORKs!!!!
