Default ECU Toast?

I was riding my 998R a few weeks ago and it just died as I was riding down the road at 60 mph. It would turn over but wouldn't start. I took the bike to the shop and they said the wiring harness that was connected to the PCIII was shorted out and needed replacing. The guy I bought the bike from had the PCIII installed but I've been told I should have it removed from the bike after calling around after the bike broke down. We replaced the harness but the bike still wouldn't start. They then put a ECU from another bike in and the thing started right up. The bike had what I'm told is a 998RS ECU (998RSADUCAT015SA) (020DI027) from a Corse bike? in it when I bought it but the guy gave me the stock ECU with the bike. We put the stock ECU in the bike and it fired right up. My question is does anyone know anything about this RS ECU? And is there a company that can repair the ECU or check it out for me? Does anyone know the what a new RS ECU would cost? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

+1,000,000 on that! Call/Email Tom at Hypertrick. He can probably reflash you and ECU with the same RS or a better map. He did the ECU on my 1098 and the bike is sooooooooo much better, and his customer service is amazing!

That's no 998RS ECU, sps. It's the stock 998R ECU for the open cannister exhaust system.

The 998RS never had an ECU like that. It had the proper Magneti Marelli system located in front of the headstock.

I don't know if stock ECUs can be flashed but if that's possible you can just borrow an ECU from any other 998R owner (like myself) and re-program yours.

Then again, if stock ECUs cannot be flashed/re-programmed I'd just get a copy made from a blank ECU. TomTom can probably help you out or you could check with Ducati if they still have these ECUs in stock.

Ive sucessfully transfered the content of broken ecus to new hardware so that will be one way to go around it, cant make any gurantees but so far it has turned out well.
Hit me a mail at info(at)hypertrick.net in case you like me to have a look at it.
