I sure hope these problems don't cause you to lose the lead in the championship. What type of points lead do you have? Hopefully enough to get this worked out before you fall behind.

Doesn't it suck that you have to pay for internet access in most of the big strip hotels?
Yea, it does suck... The strip sucks in general.
I still don't know why LA doesn't host NAB, which is a convention primarily for people who work and live in LA...

That was the only good thing to come of last weekend, I did end up extending my points. Had it been not so hot and not so windy, I probably could have ridden through some of the bikes issues, but with the nutzo wind making people crash all over the place and the mid 90 temps, it was just too hard on me. Funny enough, there were many track records broken last weekend. Its amazing how some people ride better in adverse conditions then others.

So you're still ducking the question of which series you are leading the points in??? Come on Tye...man up...which series is it?
I've had some pretty bad clearance issues on Sharkskinz lower fairings when using anything but the stock rake/offset on R models. We just cut on them and slide them back a bit. It may still hit just a smidge at 30mm, but only just, and the tire will machine it that last mm for you the rest pretty fast.
Which championship is that? I didn't see you leading any championship on either WERA or WSMC?
IF your referring to WSMC MW Twins (the only class your listed even close to the top) your listed behind a rider who is no longer with us, I think its kind of cold for you to entitle your self to his spot. YOU are not leading, Poncho Spain is and will continue to until someone can surpass his accumulated points. IF that's the class your are referring to, dude that's fcuked up. So please tell me I'm wrong.
Tye seemed to ignore that question for the rest of that whole thread...and chooses to ignore it still.....I think a lot of people would like to know what he was talking about then....unless he can predict the future.
Tye - Try pinging Joe Pug from this board, he and his race buddy Norman both had 749r with 16.5's at Willow for 06-07 and part of 08 season. You could also ping King Kenny (#27) at the Willow board but he didn't run 16.5's as far as I know only 17's. I also think Michael Baird had a 749r for part of 07-08 seasons, the Willow board might be your best bet.
Also send the forks out to a specialists and have them set it up for you. Cost a few $ but saves you time in the end.
Good luck

My configuration is;
- Dunlop 106/108 16.5"
- Rear wheel all the way back
- 30mm offset
- Stock spring rate in the shock, .95 rate in the forks
- Front ride height; fork tubes in-line with triple
- Rear right height; 250mm
- I weigh 160 with gear
What I'm looking for is perhaps somebody who has raced 749R's to give me there successful configuration, one thats been tested using the same config I've got (hopefully).
The worst wobbling/wretched handling I've ever experienced was when I installed new front clamps and failed to tighten the steering stem nut (the one that loads the bearings) tight enough. Horrible, it was really scary exiting corners on the gas, but tightening the nut solved the problem completely. I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know if you've changed anything recently, but that might be one thing to check.

Ok, thats starting to make more sense to me. I've seen the corse bikes and how the fairings fit, which is actually further back. If I was able to shave those sides down a bit, I could easily lower the front ride height.
Good tip, just wanted to make sure I was going in the right direction.

Good advice there... I've talked to Kenny a bunch, great guy... Its too bad he's not at the track anymore.

Dan built the forks within the last 2 years, so the valving is good, but I'm pretty sure the oil is shot. I need to contact him about how much oil to put in them.

Yea, I've had the front apart, but only to try and help resolve the wobble. Its a VERY common issue at this particular track WITH Dunlops. My friend Bob Setbacken has the same issues on his 1098. Though I do appreciate the "idiot check" I know all about those scratch your head puzzlement moments all because there is a loose nut. Been down that road before.
dang dude, just check WSMC website yourself and verify his results.....
Hey Uber, this has to do with a previous thread where he claimed to be a points leader while riding everyone's case for simply liking Ben Spies. When it was brought to the attention of everyone that he was NOT leading in any series, Tye ignored all inquiries of it. Hence my persuasiveness in asking Tye to answer the question. Only because he is obviously on and reading the threads. I think my point has been made....back to the topic at hand...
what about the shock? I'm not a suspension expert (I pay for the service) but sometimes issues with the front end are really attributed to rear shock issues.
Also have you tried 17's and did the issues get better or worse?

I suggested changing tyres already and would like to know if that works or not. Good on ya reminding him Michael, he should give it a go. I doubt it has something to do with diameter of tyres, but more with brand choice.

Not necessarily the case. Changing the diameters does change the geometry of the set-up so he could be just missing the geometry that works for his style of riding. More data exists on set-up of Ducs using 17" wheels than 16.5's would be my guess.
When I asked my suspension guy (Thermosman @ Ohlins) about using 16.5's on my Yamaha, he said stay away unless I change the swingarm, offset triples and had the abundance of time to work on finding a good set-up. This was of course after I had bought a set of 16.5's.
I'm also thinking that the front could be over sprung. The stock 0.95 seem too stiff for Tye's apparent weight, I'm 195 and use 0.95.
Tye - are you getting good sag numbers? I know at Willow I tried 1.0 springs in forks and the front end felt too high and never planted thru T8, so I was more hessitant on the throttle, but I switched to 0.95 and it felt much better, more planted and I could get harder on the throttle as a result.
Since some of you know willow... I can be more specific on the problems I'm having.
First off, the 749R uses a linear shock link, so the spring is much stiffer then a normal shock.
Also, I've never been able to get sag set properly. I'm going to attempt a re-try this weekend and report back with the results.
So the bike has only 2 issues:
1) I loose front-end stability coming down into 7 and down the straight.
2) Entering 2 , exiting 4B, entering 5, entering 8, the rear is very unsettled and the bumps translate all the way through my body into the bars, especially 2 and 8. Its so bumpy, I've had screws fall out of the bike, at Willow.
With that being said, I know the "problem", the rear is too stiff.
The shock is stock, so part of me wants to send it into Dan Kyle and have it re-built. Dan and I are talking and perhaps we'll come up with a solution tomorrow after I try to set sag.
Also, 17 vs 16.5, I have to stick with the 16.5's or not race. I have TUNS of tires and have already put all the money I have into a system that I know will work properly...
