Default 749r engine questions

Couple questions about 749r engines vs the regular 749/999

Based on everything I've been reading, the transmission and deep sump engine cases are the same between all models (all models that use a deep sump at least). Is this correct?

Are the 749r heads the same as any other model except for the valve diameter? Could you take the head off of another bike and get the valve seats cut for the 749r valves?

What I'm thinking of doing is putting together a spare/second engine. The thread about weight reduction got me thinking about lightening the internal parts up and I really don't want to do that on my one and only engine, but since its winter and I'm bored it sounds like a nice side project. That and there are a bunch of 749r engine parts on ebay at the moment I'm wondering if I could get the engine off something like an 05-06 749-999, replace the crank and cylinders with 749r parts, machine the head, add 749r cams and have a spare 749r engine (minus the fancy engine covers).

Putting 999/998 heads on a 749 will loose power , The compression will be very low due to the larger chamber . Port sizing would also be a big issue .

The other way would be to get a 749s head (38mm valve version), have it ported correctly to support the high lift flow of the 749r cams and off you go with a good motor.
