I had one on my 996. I made a different switch as I did not like the brake light type of switch they provided, but any momentary switch will work. It worked flawless! the only down side is that you can not adjust the RPM that it works at. But that was cool for around town ridding. Never used the clutch even in bumper to bumper traffic. The switch that they provide works fine, I am just anal so I made one like the dynojet one. I have been using them for years on the drag bikes I have built and never had a failure.

Default OK that wasn't all

I was looking in my shop manual to see if I could figure out which of the three wires to the coils was the ground , but no joy. Help please .

Did you ever figure it out? If not you can unplug the coil connector and check it with a volt/ohm meter. Just check the leads while you crank the motor. But sometimes the coils are marked on the cap, or the connector. Usually the ground is the solid color wire. the one with the stripe is usually the positive.

Default it don't work

I've tried everything I can think of and it still does nothing .I'm out of ideas short of sending it back. I have the brown wires connected to the black middle wire on the coils ,I have tried two different switched power wires ,I tested the switch . I have the one side of the switch connected to a good ground . I've tried full delay and minimum delay...nothing works please help.

The MPS unit is very user friendly. So Lets try some troubleshooting. Get out the old voltmeter and check to make sure your switched hot is hot while the bike is running and not just hot at start up. Then insure that the box's ground is going to a good engine ground. I tried a frame ground on a Busa once and was not getting a consisstant (spelling?) ground and the shifter would work sometimes but not all the time. So I used an engine bolt for the ground and it worked great. There are 4 brown wires, but since we are runnings twins you only need two, but if you do not get enough delay you may need to take the other two wires and connect them to each of the ones connected to your coils. I did not need this on my 996 so you should be good. You said you tested your switch and it is good so now check to insure you have continuity to ground when the switch is activated. Take the ohm meter and set it to continuity and then take one lead and connect it to an engine bolt and take the other lead and connect it to the ungrounded switch wire. When you pull on the switch you should get a beep from your meter showing continuity. If all this looks good it may just be the coil connections the unit works by grounding the posative signal sent to the coils. My 1098 is a the stealer for a warrenty recall, otherwise I could check my coil leads (they are the same as the 999/749) but you may need to recheck that connection. This is best checked with an analog volt meter, connect the black lead to ground and use the red lead to check each wire/terminal on the coil connector, when you have the correct lead the needle will jump on the meter. it will not stay hot, is so you are on the wrong wire. It will only go hot when the computer fires the coil.
Try these things and if you still have trouble pm. me and I will pm back my number and we can go over everything. I have my old 996 that I sold a friend in my shop so I can look at how I have things connected and check voltages on it for you if you need it. Don't get discouraged the MPS unit is a good very durable unit. We will get it figured out.

The brown one is the one that grounds to set the spark off, interrupt it and there will be no ignition. Don't know if that was your question though.

Default update

after a lot of testing and head scratching and a phone call to the manufacture this is what we came up with. The coils in 749/999 models have three wires the middle being the ground .The instructions say to connect your brown wires from the unit to the ground .This does nothing .Connecting the brown's to the signal wire is the answer. Signal wire on mine was grey/green and grey/black. This is the last electronic device that I'm putting on this bike so help me.
thanks for all the help
