What's a 999R worth these days?
Hi guys,
So, what's a 2005 999R worth these days?
Are the new Duc Superbikes (1098, 1198, ...) totally killing interest in these?
I am seriously thinking of selling mine because of time and family reasons, it's mechanically perfect with 10,900 miles but has a scratched (not broken) fairing.
So far the interest was less than enthusiastic.
Everyone at track days tells me what a great bike this is, and then they go and buy the new ones only to tell me later that the 999 has way better ergos than the 1098/1198. Interesting.
Watcha think?
Cheers, Geronimo

This won't be much help but you'll need to find the person who appreciates that specific bike for what it is.
Personally, I think the "R" is a glorious example of a homologation special.

'05 999R with 11k miles and fairing damage. $16-18k would be my guess. I also wouldn't be surprised it it took some time to get that range though.

I would keep it personally. For what you are going to get for it and with the peformance difference only been seen in the hands of an expert dump some money into it, fix her up and ride her like you stole her.

Keep her & send the skinz off for a Bayliss replica spray.
The 999R is one of the most stunning bikes made. In time... Pierre will be vindicated.

totally agree
I totally agree with most everything said here.
Keeping it is probably not in the cards, though. I just don't have enough time and opportunity to justify the cost and effort to keep her in perfect working order. 4 or 5 track days a year are not really enough to keep her in the garage.
Most all of my casual riding is 2up on the Multi, which gets a good workout every now and then.
Price wise, I guess I can be glad to keep it somewhere North of 13k.
I am happy to see that there are still people who appreciate the beauty and relevance of these astounding machines.
We'll see what happens, I'm in no hurry anyway.
Cheers, Geronimo

Is the maintenance up to date?
How much more maintenance is involved with a R bike?
Also - what extra/aftermarket parts do you have or are on the bike?

Hi Greg,
Yes, maintenance it up-to-date (done by AMS/Jeff Nash), though it will be up for a service at 12k miles (10.9k now). Service cost is usually lower than standard 999's because these engines usually do not need any more valve adjustments after the first service.
Aftermarket:
- full 57mm Termis with racing ECU
- Piug racing screen (taller for better aeros)
- 520 chain conversion with gold chain
- CF key guard
- racing billet fuel filler
- Heli bars (much more comfortable)
Hope this helps.

i have a beautiful 2004 749R(wanted a smaller bike for a bit more fun) with a few cool extras(full japanese titanium exhaust for one)
Im totally in love with it,and these bikes(the R 999 and 749)are the real buy of the motorcycle industry at the moment, with everyone selling them coz they arent as hip as the 1098,so some bargins are there.
But they are very special machines.Troy Bayliss has stated that the 999 is his favourite ducati ever(and that was just a couple of months ago)
get them while you can,coz in a year or so everyone will realize their worth and they will be hard to get maybe
