Definitely looks like you bought a dodgy subframe there. Somebody would have cut it for no apparent reason. But on the other hand, the later Corse fitting did not involve the carbon bracket you are trying to use and the ECU was living more towards the front (on real corse bikes) or by the battery (with the 5.9) for the 998 series. That probably explain why this was chopped off. See my earlier posts on the same thread and you will see a standard SPS subframe on my 996 and 998. The 998 has the carbon seat support fitted as well.
That said, even if you fix this, I think that you have the wrong end of the stick. If you are to use the 1.6 ECU, you are much better going with a 748 R subframe. This is designed to fit the 1.6 ECU (and it is Alloy).
Please see attached picture of a current build I am doing. If you observe the rear you will see that the design is different to accomodate the 1.6.
Incidentally, as well there is a carbon seat support design that accommodates such subframe. It has some curly brackets at the front going back to bolt on the subframe. I don't have a photo of such one as I (stupidely) sold mine some time back. But if you do some research you may come across one.
It's no big deal. Both mono Subs are lightweight alloy and the only real difference is the ECU mount and the way the the rear "bridge" for the standard fairing mounting is different. The corse carbon bracket for the seat is what is used on the race bikes that used the oil separator with the ECU on the front of the bike. They didn't "hack" that much, just a couple little things. So there's no real benefit to having the standard 1.6 mono subframe. I've mounted my 1.6 just fine. It's a track bike, so I won't worry about it looking perfect. Thanks for the pic, though!
OH, I didn't touch on the carbon fiber seat bracket for the 1.6 setup. I actually have owned one before, but didn't have the subframe. So when i had the chance to buy this P8 subframe, I found an amazing deal on the CF bracket to go with it. Can't pass up the subframe and bracket for less then $250 total. It'll work
Thank you for the diagram, 916. The rest I'm talking about isn't the stock rest, it's the 916RS/996RS carbon fiber seat bracket (see picture). But if you note how high the front of mine sits (and also note I'm missing the antivibration mounts (which I believe are the same that Ducati uses for the 1.6 ECU), I'm guess if I just make some spacers and thread those holes, I'll be ok. (note in the pic how the mounting hole is smooth)
I really have no idea why someone would butcher a SPS subframe like that!! What was the purpose, but if you are interested I have a 996SPS subframe in good condition with just 2 small cracks n the welds. PM me.

It's cool. They didn't really butcher it too bad, just removed a couple of things. But besides the front mounts missing, there's nothing else wrong. If I were to buy another subframe it would be a 1.6 ECU mono subframe. But there's no need for it. Thanks for the offer though!

No worries. I'm using my 1.6 subframe on my 996S. Just have this SSP one sitting around.

That Black powdercoated swingarm is sweet!!!!!!! I plan to strip and redo my mag. swingarm just like that. I'm tired of the gold color.

you're either going to need:
1. some brackets / supports made
2. a new subframe
3. an older 748RS type of carbon seat support which has an extra bit of carbon that bends down and round to meet the exhaust hanger mounts (as shown below), though they are head to find these days

Excellent pic Stu. I'm actually dropping the subframe off to have some aluminum supports welded on for the carbon bracket to bolt onto. Should be all done after that. I'll post some pics later this week when it's done.
curious, how much does that carbon part cost and where do you get them?
That carbon seat piece is hard to find and there are two versions. The SPS version like you see and the standard 1.6 ECU monoposto version. Both usually average around $100-120 when you find them. (I got mine at a steal, less then $30 including shipping). Yoyodyne does sell the 1.6 ECU version, but it's always on backorder. Not sure on the demand of these brackets though.

my 748 mono subframe like this doesn't have the holes drilled for the subframe bracket... You have to drill them yourself, yes? or should it have already come with holes in it from the factory...?
likewise, when mounting a race tail, using this type bracket and dzus fasteners, do you disregard the front hinge? the tail is the one without a cutout for seat, i figured you just stuck some neoprene on it for grip since comfort isn't really something a person ought to be concerned with a 748-996 anyways...

Wonderful pictures and 998 is looking fantastic. Its too stylish and attractive bike. Its power and performance are amazing with fully loaded features. I like this bike very much, well thanks guys for sharing beautiful pictures.

Sorry for the slow reply... yes, you have to drill the holes yourself but it's not a big job and just needs a little bit of care taken at the time. I also still have the front hinge on my bike but technically you don't need it anymore.
I'll try and post some pictures soon of my bike and the subframe I have fitted.
