Default Slave Cylinder.

Which slave cylinder is better to get or does it matter. This is for an 02 998
Evo
Motowheels
S.T.M.
Also is there anything else I would need to get to swap this out besides the fluid.Gonna be putting on the Carbon Fren Tubo lines also.
Thanks
Ron

"freds slaves"

Now that's just a hoot!

I'm imagining some little guy in there tugging on clutch lines with fluid all over him gettin his ass kicked all day.

Ok, so I have a warped sense of humor.... I'll crawl back under my rock now.

I'll be odd man out and say I really like the STM I put on my 998. What's wrong with the master cylinder that it needs rebuilt?

While I was riding the other day i went to pull the clutch lever in and it came in hella easy like there was nothing there so i was figuring that the seal my be letting air into the system. Am I wrong on thinking this or is there something else i should be looking into ? This happened to me about 3 times this past weekend.
I should say after that happened my never levers came in and i greases and put the new ones on and it did it again.

I put an Evo on my 748 two years ago. No problems. I recommend it.

The Yoyo is a work of art compared to the others. I have had nothing but heartache with nearly every other brand but Yoyo, the minute I bolted it on it was perfection.

+1 on the Yoyo. I've had the Evo on one of my race bikes...it didn't even last 1 race season before it started leaking. Yoyo has been trouble free after 2 race seasons.

I nearly lost my mind with several brand new leaking Evo's. Just my experience.

+1 for the STM, have them on both bikes. Had the Evo unit, just did not care for it.

Okay, I've got a question:

I've been reading about all of these aftermarket slave cylinders for years now, but never tried one. I keep hearing that the main reason to change it out is that the clutch pull becomes easier. Okay, fine...

So what's the trade-off?

I mean, there's got to be some drawback, because you can't just change one aspect of a mechanical device and not have it affect something else. So is there any after effect of changing the cylinder? More lever travel? More clutch slippage? Less "feel"? Abrupt engagement? What's the catch?

And the other thing is, if it's better in every way, how come Ducati hasn't changed the design of their cylinders for 15+ years?

Can anyone give me an intelligent answer?

Thank you.

I have an Evo and have noticed;

More lever travel required as the cylinder has a larger bore the same amount of lever travel gives less piston movement (shorter stroke).

Shorter stroke = Less separation of the plates, so clutch pack thickness a little more critical - if too thick then pushrod sits further out from the piston so that the piston is near the end of it's stroke before it even engages the pushrod giving even less separation, I hear that some people have put a 'spacer' at the end of the pushrod to effectively gain more stroke for better separaration, some report having problems finding neutral due to the plates not separating enough.

If correctly setup then there is no problem but due to a shorter available stroke, setup can be more difficult, would imagine Ducati use the stock one because it's greater stroke gives more margin for error.
