Default Air Filter Opinion

I have a 996 that I've installed DP carbon air runners and air box. The cf runners have the small tabs that are supposed to hold the stock flat filters in place. Well, I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm not the village idiot either, and I cannot get the flat filters to stay flat in the runners without gaps along the edges of the filters, which would allow lots of dirt to enter the airbox. I would rather go with one of the in box foam type filters.
I'd like opinions of guys on the forum as to what they have used, likes, dislikes, etc. I saw a picture of the type that look to go over each injector intake, and to me these would seem to be the better deal since they reduce the airbox volume the least.
Thanks for any help on this.....

When I tried the stock filters in my carbon tubes, I was in the same position, so I used the Pipercross foam air filters. They're slightly larger and the fit is very snug, can't see anything getting past them. Plus you can use the plastic frame from the original filters to firm up the shape of the foam.

I use the ITG in-airbox filter, maybe it kills some power but it keeps the shit out the intakes.

If you really don't want to fill the airbox you could try the BMC filters that fit between the air intakes and the airbox.....

I got them from eBay, but you should be able to get them from any Pipercross dealer.

I bought mine on ebay from blackdiamond705. He was from the UK. It cost me 26.22 GBP and they shipped out fast. Much less cost than motowheels and in stock. Look for his id blackdiamond705 or just search for ducati air filter.

I saw a dyno comparison with stock vs the ITG, and the ITG lost 8 ft-lbs. Will see if I can dig it out.

The stock filters are hard to beat. As soon as you get into a filter that goes in the airbox you start loseing volume and #'s start going down. The BMC's are a good compromise; you lose very little airbox volume to them; but being so small they need to be cleaned pretty often.

(Ducshop:
I checked your site the very first thing, after MotoWheels, under Intake & Engine. There was nothing listed, I mean nothing. I am thinking the Pipercross might be better as there would be more volume in the air box if you include the portion of the runner behind the filter. The BMC filter fits further back on the end of the runner which I am thinking would take away air box volume. yes/no?)

I had to do something as the crap stuck to the inside of the air box was way
not good. I used WD-40 sprayed inside to catch stuff that got by the stock filters. As I think I said the tank seal is 100% with no doubt about it. I used
automotive weather strip instead of the stock seal with a light coating of grease where it meets the bottom of the tank. Glue side down to the air box
on the weather strip.

I gave Seattle Ducati a call and they had a set of BMC filters in stock. I asked them to send them out having given up on the Pipercross. I called back five minutes later to have them throw in a couple of oil filters and I was told that they already had the BMC filters boxed and ready to go. I am talking five minutes, WOW!! They did put the oil filters in.

The bottom line: Sometimes you just have to pick up the phone and talk to
a real person. I should have emailed Ducshop? coulda, woulda, shoulda.
