As we all know our Ducatis are famous for base gasket leaks from the "not used" oil channel from the case to the cylinder.
I was reading some were that it is just to plug it with one if this small M4 (I think) screws with no head that I dont know what they are called in English.
The problem is th find the correct screw to plug it with or to be more exact, as I live in France and dont speak very good French I have no idee were to find it.
I remember some one saying that it was a Ducati Service letter on the S4 on this. If it is a service letter it must be a part number specified and if so it must be possible to order it some were. What is the number on the service letter and what is the number of the screw
Any one knows anything about this?

You are right. I double checked it. Would it not be good to block of both cylinders? I know that is is normally only yhe rear one leaking but I will have to install 2 base gaskets to shim the cylinders due to longer stroke crank and I can see a potential risk off leaks on the front also.

That's an oil passageway as well. I found it on my 1999 air-cooled cases, but not on my 1999 water-cooled cases. Since your going with an oil line to the 4V heads off the oil cooler or some other source, that hole is redundant or more than likely useless. Drill it out to 4mm and plug it with another grub screw, here in the USA we call them Set Screws. Also that case shouldn't and doesn't have the oil jet directed to the bottom of the front cylinder piston.
We got custms paperwork faxed over today so your pipe will be shipped on....
No Problem on time Mark, it will get here when it gets here.
Omnivisc?
I have a tube of it. Planned on using it on the 996, how do you think it will work on a air-cooled motor that runs hotter.
Just how good is it compared to a 3Bond type sealer?
Thanks... Since 1995 Omnivisc is all I've ever used. I've seen 150C oil temp on 996RS's and only 130C on our DS1000 powered race bikes at 13:1. What oil temp are you getting in AZ?

Our temps here run from 220-260F during normal parts of the year while in the heated times of the year 300F+ is not uncommon in traffic on a stock bike!
Voltage regulators fail in the heat, rubber rots or breaks down in the garage due to trapped heat, if you want anything to last you better bring it inside! Also we change oil a lot out here. Funny thing is when I cracked my cases of the air-cooled motor, they stank more than the 4V motor. If figured that the oil was worked harder in the air-cooled mill.
If Omnivisc is all that you have used it must be good stuff. I find when things don't work, they usually don't stick around for long.

the smell you get out of them is wacky isn't it. years ago i had to strip a 351c that had cracked all the main webs out of the cases, thru to the water jacket, from being raced. it was a real milkshake inside, but smelt like someone had filled it up with old bong water. it was rather unpleasant.
the s4 service bulletin is a special little welsh plug by the look of it - 87310521a
Where can I get a copy of this service bulletin?
Does this apply to a 1998 748?
omnivisc is a german silastic afaicmo. they used it in the 916sp era as a factory part.
Should I use Three Bond on base gaskets?
I'm asking because I have a base gasket leak I have to attend to this winter.
