Default Carbon Fiber Airbox Question

Quick question, has anyone who installed the large carbon fiber underseat crankcase breather unit used this on the street? If so, how did you address license plate and directional light mounting issues, since there is no provision to attach them on this unit?
TIA
Fran

I used an integrator kit from custom dynamics, and I run my license plate by the shock

If it is a genuine Ducati Corse oil breather box you can usually see an outline where the holes to mount the stock plate hanger would be drilled (the undertray part of the breather box is the same part as the DP carbon undertray, just not drilled).

The single rear mount point is OK to drill in stock position. The 2 forward holes need to be drilled nearer the rear so as not to drill into the "box" part - you also need to drill through the plate hanger in the corresponding position. Be carefull with your measurements as due to the design of the plate hanger there is a limit as to where those 2 holes can be drilled.

Hope that's of some help. Just ask if you need more info!

Cheers, Neil.

Neil,

Your info was most helpful. I see the dimples and totally understand about relocating the 2 side by side holes. Exactly the information I was looking for. Many thanks!
Cheers,
Fran

Did exactly that, but I used a evoluzione relocator which happens to have holes there already, works like a charm.

Few questions for Erik, TomTom and Neil,

Erik, how did you you mount your plate and is it illuminated? (Am going with the directional/brake light intergrator kit, pretty slick).

TomTom, are you using the Corse breather box? If you are it sounds like you drilled out holes that actually enter the breather box, is this the case? The reason I'm saying this is that both the stock plate holder and Evoluzione Plate Relocator use the stock spacing in attaching these mounts. I think Neil was saying before I drill out breather box, is to relocate and drill the 2 forward holes so that they do not disrupt the integrity of the breather box, in other words move them rearward and closer to the rear single hole, then drill corresponding holes in the mount to line up with the 2 new side by side holes.

Neil, if what I think I understood you to say is true, there is not a whole lot of room in the mount to drill new holes as there is a fairly large central hole in the middle that allows directional a license plate lights wires to pass through. Can you confirm that this is the case, and did you reuse the well nuts or just use bolts, washer and nuts?

Thanks,
Fran

Hi Fran,

You're right, there is not a whole lot of room!

I retained the stock well nuts for all 3 mounting points. The single rear mount was in the stock position and the hole for the wiring was also in the stock position. The 2 forward mounts were as far forward as I could get them without going into the "box" part. In actual fact, those holes partially encroached into the flange part where the box is bonded onto the undertray (not a problem as those things are so well bonded and sealed - I've had one appart before for repair). I also used allen bolts for those 2 mounts so I could get them as close to the sides of the plate hanger as possible - much smaller diameter head than conventional bolts.

If you're not in too big a rush to get this done I should have a few pics somewhere of the install that I can send you, probably take me a couple days to locate them though. Just let me know.

Cheers, Neil.

Neil, I have all winter so if you can dig up the photos, it would be most appreciated, again thanks for your help. I totally understand the concept, but a picture is well...worth a thousand words!

No problem Fran,

I should be able to get some pics to you by the weekend, most likely Sunday.

PM me your email address.

Cheers, Neil.
