Default winter keeping?

Just changed the chain and sprockets on ' 01 748. Do you need to rivet the pins on the new chain? The manual was unclear. What gives? The chain has the clip, a DID z something...

The new ratio is a 14/41 and I love it.

How do you winterize a bike? I have always lived in the south and never had to worry about it.

Does the link look like this? If so you need to rivet it...
