Suggestions for Rearsets & Clipons for a 2004 999?
Just crashed my 2004 999 at a trackday and I'm since I have to replace some stock parts anyway, I'm looking to fit some suitable rearsets and clipons. Advice/suggestions? I find the stock bars a bit of a stretch, so clipons that were up and back a bit from stock would help. Easily-replaceable component parts for bars, pegs and levers would be good too.
Yoyodyne or Motowheels sell adjustable rearsets for your bike and also clip-ons. The Yoyodyne are machined nicer and you can use the Motowheels race brake/shift levers with them.
I like my Motowheels rearsets. Solid and cheap. Irene has Woodcraft clipons on her 749S and she likes them. Again, solid and cheap. They are also easy to repair/replace.
I have Cycle Cat rear sets on my Fila and love them. They are adjustable
in just about any direction you can think of. One of the best features, I think,
is the locating pin that fits inside. This pin is captured so if the foot rest ever
gets loose the foot rest won't flop down. If the bolt that holds it on comes off
you will know about it because the foot rest will fall off. They are a little pricey
at around $500.00 but worth it.

I had motowheels rearsets and I did not have a good experience; the hole through which the gear lever and brake lever pivoted had to be machined to get the drag out (I'd constantly not be able to shift and the rear brake would drag). Also, they didn't really have a great range of adjustability on my 996 to get me dialed in. With that said, they did fair rather well in a crash. I now have CycleCat rearsets on the bike and love them - great fit & finish in addition to an imrpoved range of adjustability.
As for clipons, I'd run stock or if you don't mind drilling them, run woodcrafts. The cyclecat adjustable clipons that I tried didn't have the range to get me into the track position I wanted, without causing clearence issues with the nose fairing, so I stayed with OEM clipons.

I thought I had a picture of the Motowheels mounted on my R, but I was wrong. I guess I'm a little different from others here, but I didn't really care how the anodizing looked as long as they were built well and gave me a solid platform while riding on the track. I doubt I have even looked at them since I adjusted them the way I liked them. Sorry, I kind of seen rearsets as a functional and disposable piece of the bike. I had the Acculigns on my SS. I thought they were nice, quite light and adjustable. I found them to be almost too grippy, IE my boot got stuck on them once or twice. I have also seen them post crash, and they pretty much get destroyed. Be sure to keep your stock rearsets in the toolbox if you run them. With the Motowheels, you might need to replace the peg, but the mount will still be useable, from what I have seen.
i put on the Moto rear sets and found the same problem with the rear dragging , so i put the stocker back on ,, also put on FBF clipons and it helped .

Again, the Yoyodyne/Motowheels are of a similar Corse style design with the Yoyodyne having some grooves machined into the peg carrier and overall a bit nicer finish than the Motowheels - we use both and they are interchangeable. The Acculign have a similar amount of adjustability via the eccentric on the footpeg and shift/brake levers as the others with more of a focus on appearance and machining and they come with heelguards which is a deciding factor for some though I personally don't like the longer pegs on the Acculign and haven't experienced any drag issues with the Motowheels rearsets.
I have woodcrafts and love them....but there is some obstruction of the OEM radial brake and clutch master reserviors with the bolt that allows the Woodcraft bars to slide in and out of their respective clamps. You must remove the masters to allow you access to this bolt to adjust the bar length.
