Default 749R engine work

I don't really know why I am asking this question, but I'm curious. I have no intentions of having any engine work done to my R. I think I have heard that the stock 749R engine delivered from the factory is somewhat "unfinished". By unfinished, I mean rough intakes that are meant to by polished, if not ported by the owner. Is that true? If so, how much of a negative impact does that have on its performance? How much does it cost to make the improvements?

Thanks

So, does that mean the 749R exhaust ports are "unfinished" or are they all that way?

They are finished. The only major issue with the heads is where the valve seats blend (or in this case don't blend) into the head.
