Exclamation ebay carbon fibre tank seller warning...

Hi foks,

Just want to pass on a warning to anyone contemplating buying a tank from this seller on ebay - if you have the possibility to see it first, do so...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200038889955&ssPageNam e=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr3_PcY_BID_IT&refitem=2000217869 98&itemcount=3&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedr ule1=CategoryProximity&refwidgettype=cross_promot_ widget

I fell for the low price, stupidly and upon receiving it today - I am extremely dissaponted - it looks like an amateur has made it in a garden shed...

I will not be fitting this to my bike on grounds of safety alone - never mind the hideous squint paint job...
There's no way it'll hold fuel and I do not trust the integrity of the captive nuts or the rear locating tab...

There's a lot more I could waffle on about but I wont - just want to warn others to either go see the tank or STAY AWAY...

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten..."

more fool me...

Not in the market for one, but nonetheless, thanks for the headsup. I'm sure others will appreciate it too

The blurry pics would have been my first red flag, but now you've got a fairly good though expensive paperweight!

Now we're talking - I'll just go ask the wife if I can plumb it in!

Oh no, wait... It'll probably leak urine all over the floor...

Do have any pictures of the quality? I'm amazed that his feedback is still 100%.

I can take some good pics but don't know how to post here...

Re-feedback - the seller does not leave it first so I'm sure he'll use it as a "threat" -> you leave him poor feedback he'll do the same... I have a 100% good record as a buyer and if I now go & slate him - he'll slate me back... still I think it may be worth it though and I'm currently awaiting his response to my complaint...

whats the point of feedback if people are scared to give it in case
someone gives them a negative back?

I always give shitty feedback if I have a bad transaction - I dont care
if they give me the same back (and they always do.) Then again I
have 3 accounts each with over 300-400 feedback.

You can leave feedback with seconds left to go since there is a time limit on how long after the transaction you can leave feedback.

Yeah I agree sort of - I've not used ebay much - only about 12 transactions but I will give the chap the time to respond to an email first before I go & slate him in feedback...

I have that tank in my "watch " list but I have to say I did have a bad vibe about it for some reason. That paint job sort of scared me away..that sucks for you though, and right now the one I am watching is up to $510.00. So its unusable? Did you complain to the seller? It seems like for that much cash you might want to try to get your money back?

I paid $525... plus had to register with some stupid xcoin (or should that be xcon) and pay an extra levy of 3% or thereabouts...

I have to look at it like this though - a beer in a bar in Norway costs around $9.2... so looking at it from a beer point of view I'm out of pocket around 60 beers (import tax not counted yet) so I jsut have to stay in for about 10 weeks... and then another year to get a QB tank (see below)

Yes, just sent an email of complaint on receipt... To give the guy his dues, he was okay be email during the purchasing stages - quite helpful & the impression he gave was that the tank was pristine & I would not be dissapointed!!!

I was not too fazed by the paint as I'm planning on a full paint job on the bike next summer - I sourced myself some excellent carbon stuff from QB in the UK (full body kit) - their stuff is just cream - doesn't even need painted!!! Only problem is their tanks are sooooo expensive... (£800)
After already spending £1000 on carbon bodywork; I just couldn't justify that much on a tank.... and well $500 US looked good - too good

Is it unuseable - well have a look at the piccies Chris posts & judge for yourself - you may get away with it for a while but to be honest, after seeing the tank in the flesh, so to speak, I really would not feel comfortable with it between my legs! If it even holds fuel I'd be very surprised

Yeah I will try to get my money back - if he's game for it, but he did have a 7 day warranty & I live in Norway & shipping took like forever... so on & so forth... but yes, I'll try...
Advice - take the tank off your watch list & if you really want one - go for quality...

I just have one question for the seller - why the hell would anyone make 90% effort and not go the extra 10% to make a good product...
Perhaps in asking, I've answered my own question, like everything: especially engine power extraction - it's the last few percent of a project that take the time and effort - hence the additional cost... you pays your money... oh I love a good cliche...

Sorry to hear of your rip-off! New York, New York should have been your first clue to a rip-off.

Sorry tohear about the E-Bay thing ,,, like many others here who saw the add ... and looked but did bid . In the future , if you bid on some thing and win
,, but during the process you are in contact with the seller about high res pics or information that is important to you ... you don't have to pay untill the information is presented to you ... as far as the 7 day warranty ... should apply to when the product is in your hands , unless it is stated the 7 days starts after payment is recived .. in any case good luck

Sorry - straight over my head that one... only been over the pond twice... first time to Houma, Louisianna and the second time to Houston... (yeah, I work in the oil...)

Thanks for the warning I'll be aware next time...

You know, in the beginning, whilst I was bidding - I posed the question as to who made the tanks & the answer was: "tank made by a small undisclosed supplier to local racing teams"
-> I'd like to see what racers actully use this tank..

Ok sorry I'm ranting again...

Thanks 04749s - looks like I have a lot to learn about ebay...
I was under the impression that once you won - you were obliged to pay... So far, I've had some pretty good buys off there.. but I'll give a LOT of thought before I purchase something of that value again on ebay without seeing it...

Default Question for you ebay experts out there...?

This was the sellers return waranty... does anyone know if this actually means anything...?

Fair enough, I can get proof of delivery time & date which may allow me to claim a refund...
However - the clause that says refund will be given as "Exchange" kills it as far as I'm aware... looks to me like I've been done and I might as well go cry

Seller's return policy:
Item must be returned within: 7 Days
Refund will be given as: Exchange
Return Policy Details: -shipping cost
