Default quick connect fuel line Q? Also a wiring Q?

I finally am done with my winter project 748 and I'm just buttoning things up. I have a couple of questions though.

1. My quick connect fuel lines are giving me trouble. One of them just pops in no problem, but the other (skinner end) one won't click in. Any suggestions?

2. What is the wire that goes from the mid wiring harness to the back of the engine by the swing arm?

Thanks, Anthony

1. The o-ring probably has a cut in it.

2. The small wire is the "Neutral" sensor wire and the large one is a ground wire.

What Mental said, and:

My Q/D's have a little spring-loaded/locking slider on the female fitting.
This slider gets released and locked by a little plunger.

If the female fitting is disconnected, and you push the plunger, the slider snaps to the locked position. This normally locks the male fitting in place, but can block you from connecting if it's tripped without the male fitting inserted.

Easy to trip when you're threading lines...FHE on that.

What Speeddog830 said, that Mental said. and....

Its a good Idea to put a little petroleum jelly (Vaseline) around the male QD's. it keeps everthing lubbed and free moving also keeps the o-rings in good shape and last longer.

If you need to change the fittings let me know we generaly have the chrome plated brass fitting in stock. The cost to change to the metal fittings is about $15.00/per. You need to make a special tool to remove the fitting from the flange that they screw into. The tool is a a 3/4" (I think, I'm not in the shop to check) deep well 12 point socket with 5 points ground out for about 3/4" up the socket. Any questions ask. The metal fitting are made by the same company as the plastic fitting and are readily available. When you remove the plastic fittings from the flange they generaly break-off because they are glued in, you can try heat, a solvent or anything to break the glue bond. It is no big deal to clean the threads if you break off the plactic fitting, and reinstall the metal fitting.

I replaced the plastic QD's on my 748 with metal ones from Omega. I took the locking clip off the fittings to remove/install them. No special tool needed.

Jimmy,

Do you have quick-disconnects screwed into the tank flange on the bottem of the tank. This is the flange that support the filter, fuel pump etc. If you did, you must unscrew the quick-dicsonnect, you will need to addaptor a special tool to unscrew that fitting. Not all bikes have the quick dicsonnect at the tank flange. Ducati does not sell the qick-disconnects for the tank flange seperatly, they want you to buy the entire flange and they are very proud of it.

So upon closer inspection, yeah I did snap one of the Q/D's (black one). It snapped at the base of the male fitting. I wasn't aware that this was a problem for these bikes. I guess I'll be more careful next time.

Yup, I have the quick disconnects on the flange at the bottom of the tank. To remove them I took apart the locking clip and was able to get a regular socket on them. To install the new metal ones I did the same. Pushing the pin all the way in allows the metal retaining clip to slide off of the connector.
